March 31 local elections in an unprecedented unequal situation by applying maximum pressure on the opposition parties and turning the elections into a matter of Turkey’s survival and struggle against domestic and foreign operations against Turkey. The goal was give legitimacy to their rule, already undermined and weakened, socially and ideologically. They came to believe that they can uphold their power by embarking on a policy of war, both within Turkey and abroad.

At a Boiling Point? Growing Tensions over Ankara’s Determination to Acquire the S-400

Turkey’s insistence to move ahead with the S-400 deal with Russia, in spite of the American threat that this move would be met with sanctions, is expected to create a rift in relations between Turkey and the United States and the other allies in NATO. Reactions to this move by the administration and Congress are likely to be strong. Apart from the significance for the relations between the two countries, the Turkish step will have geopolitical implications, both in the context of the balance of power between the United States and Russia, and for Washington’s ability to coordinate and cooperate with Turkey on the situation in Syria and Iraq, and on policy regarding Iran.

WASHINGTON,— The United States has halted delivery of equipment related to the stealthy F-35 fighter aircraft to Turkey, marking the first concrete U.S. step to block delivery of the jet to the NATO ally in light of Ankara’s planned purchase of a Russian missile defense system.U.S. officials told their Turkish counterparts they will not receive further shipments of F-35 related equipment needed to prepare for the arrival of the stealthy jet, two sources familiar with the situation told Reuters on Monday.
The Pentagon confirmed the Reuters report that the equipment delivery had been stopped.

Stand: 01.04.2019 09:57 Uhr – ARD ZDF – Die Kommunalwahl in der Türkei galt als Stimmungstest für Präsident Erdogan. Und diese Stimmung scheint sich in den wichtigen Großstädten gegen ihn zu richten: In Istanbul und Ankara sieht es nach einem Sieg der Opposition aus.
Bei den Kommunalwahlen in der Türkei liegt in Istanbul der Oppositionskandidat in Führung. Der CHP-Kandidat Ekrem Imamoglu habe einen Vorsprung von fast 28.000 Stimmen, erklärte der Chef der Hohen Wahlkommission, Sadi Güven. Imamoglu kommt den vorläufigen Ergebnissen zufolge auf 4.159.650 Stimmen und der Kandidat der AKP von Präsident Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ex-Ministerpräsident Binali Yildirim, auf 4.131.761 Stimmen.

30 March 2019 – MESOP NEWS – ANKARA,— Turkey will solve the Syria issue “on the field” after Sunday’s local elections, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday, as he sought to drum up support for his AK Party in the vote.
Turkey has carried out two cross-border operations against Kurdish militants in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) in northern Syria and has warned that it will launch further incursions if the threats along its borders are not eliminated.
“First thing after the elections, we will solve the Syria issue on the field if possible, not at the table,” Erdogan told supporters in the first of his six rallies in Istanbul.
