MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : STATEMENT OF PKK UMBRELLA “KCK” – TO OUR PEOPLES AND THE
NORTH KURDISTAN (TURKEY) – Turkey’s AKP-MHP fascist coalition was aiming at winning the
March 31 local elections in an unprecedented unequal situation by applying maximum pressure on the opposition parties and turning the elections into a matter of Turkey’s survival and struggle against domestic and foreign operations against Turkey. The goal was give legitimacy to their rule, already undermined and weakened, socially and ideologically. They came to believe that they can uphold their power by embarking on a policy of war, both within Turkey and abroad.
But the peoples of Turkey and democratic circles dealt a major blow to the ‘survival’ demagogy of AKP-MHP, used to justify their enmity towards the Kurds, the women, the youth, the labor, and democracy.
They rejected the warmongering and fascist polices of the AKP-MHP
coalition, based on the issue of ‘national survival’. They reacted to
the anti-Kurdish policies of AKP-MHP fascism by promoting the
principle of peoples’ fraternity and the resolve and awareness for
common life.
The AKP-MHP fascist coalition suffered a major defeat in Turkey
and Kurdistan. The era of state-appointed trustees hijacking the will
of the people in Kurdistan has come to an end. They may have extended
the term of some of these partisan trustees in Şirnak and other towns
by resorting to vote rigging and electoral fraud, but they couldn’t
get into the way of a great defeat in Turkey and Kurdistan. The
anti-Kurdish and anti-democratic policies of the AKP and Erdogan have
failed. The waning MHP has emerged as the money-maker of these
policies. The AKP’s distancing itself from its very initial rhetoric
and policies, which helped it come to power in 2003, led to its defeat
in March 31, 2019 elections and relegated it to the status of a
short-lived party. The continuation of the present anti-Kurdish and
anti-democratic policies will spell the end of AKP’s rule.
The strategy rightly followed by HDP in the March 31 elections
will have far-reaching implications for Turkey’s political future.
Following this strategy, the democratic circles and the Kurds
initiated a new era in the democratic struggle in Turkey. The common
struggle of the peoples of Turkey and their ambitions for a democratic
administration in Turkey will play a major role in bringing about
change in the political mind-set in Turkey. The peoples of Turkey
showed their attitude and resolve to share a common fate with the
Kurds. They rejected the divisive and polarizing policies of AKP-MHP
rule and took a great step toward the democratic unity of the peoples.
The March 31 election results, if dealt with properly by Turkey’s
democratic circles, will mark a breakthrough in Turkey’s politics,
spell the end of the crises and Turkey will enjoy, in the 21st
century, a peaceful and stable political, social, economic and
cultural climate.
We commend the peoples of Turkey, the Kurdish people, the labor,
the women, the youth, and all the democratic forces for their success
in the March 31 elections that created a new hope for Turkey. The
fascist AKP-MHP coalition has lost all cities that carry the potential
to lead a party to power in Turkey. It is difficult for a party to
remain in power after losing cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir,
Adana, Mersin and Antalya. Having already lost in Kurdistan, the
AKP-MHP fascist coalition is at a point where they can no longer
govern Turkey.
What has made for the AKP-MHP fascist coalition loss in these
elections was the great resistance, in recent years, of the Kurds and
democratic circles against the fascist crackdown. They managed, via
their resistance, to prevent the fascist rule from gaining total
control, keep alive the hopes of the democratic circles, and defeat
fascism on March 31. The Kurdish people’s resistance against the
harshest oppressions and their insistence on the joint struggle for
democracy together with the peoples of Turkey have created today’s
political climate. It has, once again, been proved that the Kurdish
people are the most fundamental dynamic for democracy in Turkey and
the Middle East.
The results of this election have shown the path of the right
polices for all political forces to follow. It has been realized that
the notions of ‘democratic nation’ and ‘common homeland’ can resolve
the fundamental issues in Turkey and turn it into an exemplary
democratic country. The resistance of DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven and her
comrades in Turkish prisons and in Europe, aiming at breaking the
isolation on Mr. Ocalan and bringing down fascism, has also played an
important role in exposing the AKP-MHP fascist character and pushing
it back. Peoples of Turkey and democratic forces came to realize the
possible political outcomes that the breaking the isolation would
create in Turkey, Kurdistan, and the Middle East. This understanding
had a major effect on the defeat of the AKP-MHP fascism in the March
31 elections.
The outcome of these elections has got the peoples of Turkey,
all political forces, as well as all international powers and
institutions to know the forces that want peace and stability in
Turkey and the policies that should be followed. The democratic union
of Turkey’s peoples which has become concrete in these elections also
shows the how of the solution to the Kurdish Question. Breaking the
isolation imposed on Leader APO and ensuring his freedom is extremely
important for the democratization of Turkey. The defeat of AKP-MHP
fascism on March 31 has also shown that all democratic forces should
participate in the struggle pioneered by Leyla Güven and other
prisoners to break the isolation imposed on Leader APO; for he will
play an important role and have great contributions to the solution of
the Kurdish Question, the democratic national unity of the peoples of
Turkey and the creation of Democratic Turkey. His 20-years-long
efforts in the Imrali prison are proof to that.
The success of the Kurdish people and democratic forces shouldn’t
be limited to the elections alone. They should draw on this success to
totally defeat the AKP-MHP fascism and democratize Turkey. The
societal, political and psychological climate for this has already
been created. The rejection of AKP-MHP government’s anti-Kurdish
policies and their ‘national survival’ demagogy in cities and regions
that determine the cultural, economic, societal and political life in
the country has created a huge opportunity to create a change in the
mind-set and the development of democratic policies. Now all
democratic forces have a duty to defeat the AKP-MHP fascism completely
and to create a democratic Turkey. The AKP-MHP fascist alliance’s
statements that ‘there won’t be any elections for the coming 4 years
and everybody should accept the current government’s policies and stop
the struggle to change’ should be responded to by increasing the
resistance. The struggle should continue through all democratic and
legitimate means. Because what happened on March 31 was not just an
election victory; rather, it was the defeat of the AKP-MHP fascism.
The process now should serve to take down this government through
anti-war, democratic policies.
We commend the Kurdish people and the democratic forces for their
stance and success in the March 31 elections and call on all to step
up their struggle by drawing on the democratic union of the peoples of
Turkey, inspired by March 31.
