EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Ever since the launch of the BRI in 2013, Beijing has shown great interest in the Maghreb region as an entry point to European and African markets. Beijing has prioritized commercial relations over political influence in the Maghreb. While the current BRI map does not officially include the Maghreb region (by design, as the BRI is more a loose brand than a strict program), Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed between China and every country in the Maghreb, demonstrating that China is expanding its foothold in the region.

Das berichtete die Zeitung The Times of Israel bereits Anfang Mai. Die Information ging demnach vor dem Verbot der Miliz im April an die Behörden – und soll durch monatelange Geheimdienstoperationen der Israelis erlangt worden sein.

Moscow used its South Syrian proxy, the Fifth Corps, to send a message to Bashar Assad in Damascus. This telling slogan was shouted on Aug. 1 in the presence of Russian officers at a passing-out parade of 1,000 Russian- trained recruits of the Fifth Corps. This militia was established earlier this year to nail down Moscow’s role as the boss of southern Syria. It rules three regions, Daraa, Quneitra and Jebel Druze.

Ein Strahlenkranz, der an die Stacheligkeit des Virus erinnert: Das Gendersternchen vertieft die Probleme, die es lösen soll. Wir sollten uns um Integrität statt um Identität kümmern. Ein Gastbeitrag.
Es kann nichts dafür, aber nun ist es in der Welt und will nicht mehr weichen. Es erinnert an Corona und daran, dass wir alle potentielle Überträger*innen der Krankheit sind. Was mal nur ein Sternchen war, weckt jedes Mal, wenn es auftaucht, ungute Assoziationen. Und der Strahlenkranz, der an die Stacheligkeit des Virus erinnert, taucht oft auf. Immer häufiger wird er stillschweigend eingesetzt. Auch die öffentlich-rechtlichen Fernsehsender plazieren ihn schon mal beiläufig auf dem Bildschirm.
