MESOPOTAMIA NEWS SOUTH KURDISTAN / IRAQ : TURKISH ARMY CONFRONT WITH PKK – NOT US !
SULAIMANI – NRTTV 3. June 1018 -The New Generation Movement on Saturday (June 2) called for the immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops and troops of other neighboring countries from the Kurdistan Region, saying such actions violate Iraq’s sovereignty.
The spokesman for New Generation, Kazim Faruq, said Turkish incursion and deployment of its troops into the Kurdistan Region territory is against the international law and a violation against territorial integrity of Iraq and Kurdistan Region.
He said Turkey’s ambition to build military bases in the region will bring political instability and insecurity to the region as well as paving the way for another country to intervene in the region’s affairs and break into its territory.
“We call for immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops and other neighboring countries which have military bases in the Kurdistan Region to respect sovereignty of the Region and its people,” said Faruq in a statement. He further called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraqi government to take action against it.“Remaining silent towards such military incursion is a means that you [the KRG] accept it.”
A unit of Turkish army entered Barmiza village on Thursday and met with villagers. They also had dinner with them.
The Turkish soldiers told the villagers that they had no problem with them, but they wanted to confront the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).The Turkish army has entered 20 kilometers into the Kurdistan Region, local authorities said. The Turkish military has also created a number of military bases inside the Region.
The three-decade armed struggle by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) against the Turkish government flared up again in 2015 after the collapse of a two-year cease-fire and settlement process, plunging Turkey’s predominantly Kurdish southeast back into open conflict between Turkish security forces and the PKK.
