The Assad regime was slow to comment on last week’s initiative for the zones, announced by Russia, Turkey, and Iran at the political talks in the Kazakh capital Astana. Earlier this week Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said that Damascus endorses the proposal, although he insisted that the UN could not be involved in providing security.Assad told a Belarus TV channel on Thursday that the “Russian initiative is correct in principle”, giving “rebels an opportunity to reconcile themselves with the state” by laying down their arms in return for amnesty. The attacks occurred on April 25th, around 02:00 AM. 20 of our comrades have lost their lives and 18 others are injured, three of which are in serious conditions. The attacks have occurred at a time when the People’s Protection Units (YPG) are taking a leading role within the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the International Coalition of Anti-ISIS and have strained the ISIS terrorists. The Turkish attacks aim to reduce the pressure that our forces have exerted on ISIS. On the other hand, it is an overt support to ISIS and deterrence against the SDF and global collation’s efforts against ISIS.

Man darf sich nicht einschüchtern lassen von Zuschreibungen, die das Denken verhindern sollen. Unterschwellig wissen wir doch alle, dass beispielsweise der Islam, wie er als politische Form existiert, eine echte Bedrohung für den liberalen Westen darstellt. Die Angst ist da, doch singt man laut im Walde, also in der Öffentlichkeit, um sich zu beschwichtigen.«
