Michael Rubin, academic and former staff advisor for Iran and Iraq at the Pentagon, spoke to ANF on Turkey’s 16 April referendum, the Kurdish question and the Erdoğan government. Rubin stated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is so upset that Reza Zarrab is in the United States and talking to investigators, noting that there’s a number of bank accounts in Europe and Russia belonging to Erdogan and his family.

On February 12, 2017, the Iranian Tasnim news agency, which is close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, published an “exclusive interview,” datelined Baghdad and titled “Iraqi President Lauds Iran’s Timely Support, Backs General Soleimani.” In it, Iraqi President Fouad Masoum, according to the interview’s introduction, “hailed Iran for the effectual supports it has provided for the Arab country in the fight against terrorism [and stressed] that Iranian [IRGC] commander General Qassem Soleimani is in Iraq as part of Baghdad’s plans to get help from foreign military advisors.”

ARA News – 29 March 2017 – The top U.S. ground commander in Iraq Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend told reporters on Tuesday the US-led coalition had no intention to create a Kurdish federal state in northern Syria.
“It’s not my mission to create a Kurdish federal state, and we’re not liberating Raqqa for any one party,” Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend said. “And what we see with the Syrian Democratic Forces is although they may be largely Kurdish led, they are over half non-Kurd. Mostly Arabs, some others, some Turkmen and some others.”“But the Kurds are only about 10 percent of the population of northern Syria. So I don’t really see how there’s actually gonna be anything called a Kurdish federal state in northern Syria. But now the rivals are both backing Kurdish YPG fighters as they take on ISIS there and in neighboring Iraq.
