MESOP MUST READ : John Russel: „Young Arabs Support Separation of Islam and Government“

Der Westen lässt die säkularen Stimmen in der islamischen Welt im Stich

„Some young Arabs want Islam, the religion of Muslims, to be separated from politics and governments in Middle Eastern countries. Faisal Saeed Al-Mutar is a writer and humanist. He is a former refugee from Iraq. He created the Global Secular Humanist Movement in 2009 to support human interests and the worth of individuals without relying on religion. He recently spoke to VOA about the importance of supporting those who want religion to be separated from government. ‚There is a growing number of Arab millennials between 20 and 30 who are advocating for human rights and secular liberal values,‘ Faisal said. ‚I think that the United States and the West should stand in solidarity with these people.‘“ Read all   (John Russel: „Young Arabs Support Separation of Islam and Government “) www.mesop.de

MESOP TODAYS TOP ON THE AGENDA :  By Metin Gurcan / A Monitor

Who’s behind Istanbul airport attack?

29 June 2016 – Over the past 12 months, 298 people have been killed and about 1,000 wounded in 17 terror attacks in Turkey. The attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport on the evening of June 28 was the sixth major terror attack in 2016. What made this attack different from the others was its location. This is the third airport attack in Turkey’s long history of combating terror. In 1982, the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia attacked Ankara Esenboga Airport and killed nine people, and the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, which is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), fired mortars at Sabiha Gokcen Airport in Istanbul in December 2015. MESOP TODAYS OPINION : What Comes After the Istanbul Airport Attack? – By Mustafa Akyol (NEW YORK TIMES)

30 June 2016 – ISTANBUL — (….) This country was much more peaceful a year ago. It was only last summer that a two-year-old peace process between the government and the P.K.K. fell apart. Meanwhile, the Islamic State, which initially benefited from Turkey’s lax control of the Syrian border, began to carry its violence inside Turkey. Islamic State suicide bombers first aimed at secular Kurds, then Western tourists and finally random people at the airport.Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=75470

MESOP: THE VOICE OF ISRAEL – MOSHE DAYAN CENTER ABOUT “BREXIT”

Editors: Paul Rivlin and Brandon Friedman  – Brexit: England’s Arab Spring

Paul Rivlin : The result of the UK referendum on continued membership in the European Union (EU) can be seen as an “English Arab Spring”: a vote against the establishment by millions who felt politically and economically alienated. In their best-selling book, Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson suggest that one factor explains the success of nations more than any other: inclusiveness. This meant increasing political rights and expanding economic opportunities for all; countries that succeeded followed the path of inclusiveness, those that failed did not. Mesop Arguments & Analysis  : “Russia is in Charge of Syria: How Moscow Took Control of the Battlefield and Negotiating Table” (Sam Heller, War on the Rocks)

“Russia has used its military primacy to oblige others — including the United States — to treat it as the gatekeeper to a negotiated solution to the conflict. But not all is well for the Kremlin. Russia finds itself in the middle of a war that seems impossible to resolve military or politically — on Moscow’s terms or anyone else’s. Russia is invested heavily in a political process that, thanks to uncooperative Syrians on all sides of the war, seems unlikely to succeed. Yet Russia also appears convinced that a purely military victory by the regime is impossible. Now, with negotiations stalling, Moscow must grapple with how to deliver ‘success’ in Syria. Russia has used its intervention in Syria to reshape the military and political contest for control of Syria and to deliberately constrict the space for countervailing American action. The idea that America can menace Russia’s regime partner in Syria unilaterally and without consequences is an unreal one. And unless America is willing to risk a dangerous and unpredictable confrontation with Russia, the course of Syria’s war hinges on what Russia does next.” Read full text http://www.mesop.de/?p=75488

MESOP : NO CHANCE FOR BREXIT AHEAD  = THE LAST DAYS OF EUROPE

Turkey’s Growing Influence over Islam in Austriaby Soeren Kern  •  June 30, 2016

  • The Berlin-based expert on Turkey, Ralph Ghadban, warns that the Islam being preached in Turkish-controlled mosques in Europe is a “Sharia Islam with strong Turkish-nationalist overtones” that calls for a “strict separation from Western individualistic values.”
  • In February 2016, the University of Vienna published study which found that Islamic kindergartens in the capital are dominated by “intellectual Salafists and political Islamists” who are contributing to the “theologically-motivated isolation” of Muslim pupils. The report calls into question claims by the IGGiÖ that anti-Western textbooks have been removed from Austrian schools.
  • Muslim students now outnumber Roman Catholic students at middle and secondary schools in Vienna, according to official statistics, which show that Muslim students are also on the verge of overtaking Catholics in Viennese elementary schools. The data confirms a massive demographic and religious shift in Austria, traditionally a Roman Catholic country. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=75490

THE GERMAN KURDISH CHAPTER

Volltext lesen : http://www.mesop.de/?p=75474
