MESOP NEWS : Kurdish PKK supports neither Turkish govt nor coup participants

16 July 2016 – DIYARBAKIR-AMED, Turkey’s Kurdish region,— The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) movement, outlawed in Turkey, supports neither the Turkish government nor the coup attempt participants, the PKK said in a statement on Saturday.

Late on Friday, Turkish authorities said that an attempted military coup is taking place in the country. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Turkish citizens to take to streets, stating that the coup attempt was carried out by a small group within the military. “The Kurds take no side in the conflict… We cannot support any of the sides which establish the system where there is no place either for the Kurdish people and for democracy,” the PKK statement said.
