MESOP : IRAN VIA PUK ABOUT KDP (KRG) – Iran asked us to prolong Barzani’s term: Mala Bakhtiar

12 June 2016 – KURDPRESS – The chief executive for the political office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran had demanded better ties between the PUK and the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and had asked the former to prolong Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani’s term when his tern ended in 2015.

Mala Bakhtiar told Rudaw TV that Iran has always demanded good tie between political parties in Kurdistan Region and removing tensions in the autonomous region in the north of Iraq.

He went on to add that Iran has asked the PUK leaders to extend Barzani’s term as the KDP leader. Bakhtiar added that Iran has welcomed the recent agreement between the PUK and Change Movement (Gorran) and has not made any opposition to it yet. Barzani’s legal extended term as the president of the region was ended in 2015 but the political parties in the region failed to reach agreement over who should lead the region as president after Barzani refused to step down. www.mesop.de
