Russlands Außenminister: Kein dreiseitiges Projekt mit Iran zu Syrien-Krise

MOSKAU, 16. Januar (RIA Novosti).

(MESOP)

THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD ? : ‘Rojava has established the first administrative system of democratic modernity’ (Sabri Ok – PKK)

Sabri Ok: If Kurds are not recognised as a third party they’ll reject Geneva

CİHAN ÖZGÜR – Behdinan 16.01.2014 – KCK Executive committee member Sabri Ok says Kurds should reject Geneva II if they are not recognised as a third party. “They say the Kurds can only come to Geneva without an identity. This is injustice and an insult to the Kurds.” Ok added that a model for resolution of the Syrian crisis would not succeed without taking the Kurds into account. “A status for Kurdistan without the approval of the Kurds is a non-starter. Rojava has already established its own status.”

A BETTER APPROACH TO GENEVA: AID THE SYRIAN OPPOSITION NOW

By David Pollock – January 15, 2014 – Resuming direct U.S. material support for anti-Assad forces offers the only serious prospect, even if modest, for halting Syria’s downward slide and its damage to U.S. interests. Amidst final preparations for the Geneva II conference on Syria next week, the available policy options are poor. The conference’s chances of more than mere procedural or very partial outcomes, such as limited ceasefires and humanitarian-access agreements, are slim. But simply walking away from the Syrian crisis or direct military intervention in it offers even worse prospects.

NEW RESEARCH : HIZB ALLAH AT WAR IN SYRIA: FORCES, OPERATIONS, EFFECTS & IMPLICATIONS

By Jeffrey White – CTC Sentinel – January 2014 – As the war in Syria rages, the conflict has presented a major challenge to Lebanese Hizb Allah’s military organization, command, and combat forces.

The intelligence services of some Western countries opposed to Syrian President Bashar Assad have visited Damascus to discuss security cooperation with his government, Syria’s deputy foreign minister confirmed in remarks broadcast on Wednesday.
“I will not specify [which countries] but many of them have visited Damascus, yes,” the deputy minister, Faisal Mekdad, said in an interview with the BBC.
Mekdad’s remarks followed a report in The Wall Street Journal claiming that European intelligence agencies have met covertly with Assad delegates to share information on European jihadists operating in Syria, in the first such meeting since withdrawing their ambassadors when the crisis began.
