Tagesschaude – 21.1.2014 – In syrischen Gefängnissen sollen internationalen Rechtsexperten zufolge Tausende Häftlinge systematisch gefoltert und zu Tode gequält worden sein. Dem britischen “Guardian” sowie dem Sender CNN liegt ein Bericht vor, der sich auf Aussagen eines nach eigenen Angaben übergelaufenen syrischen Militärpolizisten stützt.Dieser stellte demnach rund 27.000 Bilder von 11.000 toten Häftlingen zur Verfügung, die er selbst fotografiert haben will. Insgesamt werteten die Autoren etwa 55.000 Fotos aus.

They now fear that the Kurdish issue will be ignored in the conference, despite the fact that Kurds control a significant part of northern Syria, including many oil-producing areas.

The regime has submitted its final roster and named the officials who will be representing it, while the ever fractious Western- and Gulf-backed opposition-in-exile is still bickering. But a threat from the US and the UK to cut off support if it fails to attend may provide the needed incentive for the national coalition to finally field its delegation.
