US envoy Power calls on Iran to “explicitly” back Syrian interim government

WASHINGTON – US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said Monday that Iran must “explicitly” back an international call for a transitional government in Syria to take part in peace talks this week.

“Iran still has yet to demonstrate its willingness to explicitly and publicly subscribe to the full implementation of the Geneva communiqué that is a minimum requirement for participation in this peace process,” Power, a top member of the US cabinet, told a UN Security Council meeting.
