TODAY’S MESOP SYRIA INSIGHT
The Syrian government is expected to miss a major deadline next week to destroy its 12 nuclear weapons production facilities. An official from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said Thursday that none of the facilities had been destroyed yet.

By Carl Drott – carnegieendowment.org – 7-3-2014 – When I met the Qamishli-based Syriac Christian activist who calls himself Judi Michael in September last year, he was working for the Syriac Union Party (SUP), a political party made up of ethnic Syriac Christians who stand in opposition to the Syrian regime. Judi told me about how he had been imprisoned and tortured by regime intelligence agencies in 2012 and how he then joined the Qamishli wing of the SUP’s militia, known as the Sutoro, a few months after he was released.

Das sagte der syrisch-katholische Erzbischof von Hassakè-Nisibi, Jacques Behnan Hindo, dem vatikanischen Fides-Infodienst. „Jede Änderung dieser Art in der Region muss einvernehmlich von den drei Komponenten der örtlichen Bevölkerung gebilligt werden, also Kurden, Christen und Muslimen“, so der Erzbischof.

The delegation, consisting of representatives of 12 parties met KCK Executive Council Co-chair Cemil Bayık and KCK Executive Council members Zeki Şengali and Besta Fırat.

By DİLXWAZ BEHLEWÎ RUDAW – 7-3-2014 – George Sabra, head of the Syrian National Council (SNC) which is a coalition of Syrian opposition groups based in Istanbul, said that Syria’s Kurds should not be insisting on guarantees of self-rule in a future government. “The most important mission is to topple the Syrian regime and give the opportunity to a new Syria,” he added in an interview with Rudaw. Sabra claimed that the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is not included in the SNC, “is implementing the agenda of the Syrian regime.” He thinks that the PYD’s declaration of autonomy in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) will not last. YPG Launches Operation Against ISIS In Til Ebyad
Rojava Report – 7-3-2014 – According to an article carried on Özgür Gündem and sourced to ANF, the YPG has carried out an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS), an affiliate of al-Qaeda, around the town of Til Ebyad on the border with Turkey.
