by Borzou Daragahi, Financial Times – 16-3-2014 –     (…)    “Two years ago we controlled nothing,” says Mr Hammoud, 53, during a meeting in a hotel in southeast Turkey where he and some of his fighters gathered to discuss strategy with other Syrian activists, rebels and politicians. “Now from the Iraqi border to Deir Ezzour there is no regime.”

    Three years on…

    Many of his men, his relatives and his neighbours have been killed, martyred to a revolution that began three years ago this month. But there have been many victories, too. “If we lose one fighter we take 10,” he says. “We have so much experience at this point. We have gotten very good. Of course, we are winning; we are advancing all the time.”

17.3.2014 – Al-Monitor’s Congress Pulse got off to a fast start this week, as Julian Pecquet broke the news on March 14 about a new resolution sponsored by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Edward Royce, R-Calif., and ranking member Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., calling on the Obama administration to develop a new US strategy for Syria in 60 days and withdraw recognition of the Syrian government, “unless and until the [Bashar al-] Assad regime and its supporting militias discontinue their barbaric slaughter, systematic starvation and other grave human rights abuses, and are granted full and unfettered access for deliveries of humanitarian assistance, even as other negotiations with Assad’s regime may continue.”

Assad-Fans in Italien : Mit Syrienflagge & Hitlergruß – Stalinisten & Nazis

16-3-2014 – taz – Stalinisten und Nazis treffen sich in ihrem diffusen Antiimperialismus. Aber auch in ihrer Unterstützung des syrischen Diktators sind sie sich einig. Mitten in Rom wurde die Piazza Venezia, auf der einst Benito Mussolini seine Reden hielt, zum Schauplatz einer eigentümlichen Demonstration: Vor dem Eingangstor der syrischen Botschaft hielten einige Dutzend Menschen Porträts des syrischen Präsidenten Baschar al-Assad und viele syrische Fahnen in die Höhe. – Redner wechselten sich am Mikrofon ab, und als schließlich aus den Lautsprechern die syrische Nationalhymne ertönte, streckte ein Teil der Demonstranten den rechten Arm zum Hitlergruß aus, während der andere mit geballter Faust salutierte. Auf die erste „rot-braune“ Demonstration vor fast genau einem Jahr sollten weitere folgen.

Unsere Erklärung zum 3. Jahrestag des Aufstandes gegen das Assad-Regime:

Heute, einen Tag, nachdem sich der Beginn des Aufstands gegen das Assad-Regime zum mittlerweile dritten Mal jährte, haben syrische Regierungstruppen und die mit ihr verbündeten Milizen der Hisbollah die Stadt Yabroud nach monatelangen Kämpfen eingenommen. Dies ist für die Aufständischen eine strategisch katastrophale Niederlage. Mit dem Verlust der Stadt ist nun die letzte Nachschubroute aus dem Libanon in die Damaszener Stadtteile, die nach wie vor von den Rebellen gehalten werden, abgeschnitten. Für das Regime ist es nun ein Leichtes, diese Gebiete von der Außenwelt zu isolieren und auszuhungern, wie es dies auch schon in Yarmouk und vielen anderen Ortschaften getan hat. Dabei hat das Regime diesen Sieg maßgeblich seiner Luftwaffe zu verdanken.
