MESOP OPINION – Syrian Rebel Wants a New Ally: Israel / Kamal Labwani
World News – 05.09.14 – Daily Beast – To protect the innocent & to defeat the Assad dictatorship, Syrians should work with Israel to create a safe haven.
I spent more than a decade in Syrian prisons and therefore know what kind of regime this is. It is one which believes that torture is a form of dialogue. This was long before the Syrian uprising. Long before my countrymen went to the streets in a peaceful protest calling for freedom. Long before the death toll reached 150,000.
In the past three years, we Syrians have learned a lot about who our friends are and who our enemies are. Russia and Iran provide the backing critical for Bashar Assad to remain in power. Hezbollah filled the ranks of the Syrian army. Islamist radicals were brought in from other parts of the region attempting to take Syria away from the Syrian people who had risen to protest.

100 Kurdish intellectuals state their opposition to PYD ‘intimidation and treachery accusations’
MESOP: NO – to a stalinistic „one-party-dictatorship“ in West Kurdistan (Rojava) (Read below Arabic version)
By the 100 signatories*: (8th May 2014)
The Kurdish intellectuals, in particular the youth, were a part of the Syrian uprising from the beginning in mid-March 2011. All attempts used by the regime, including threats, intimidation, terror and misinformation initially failed to stop them. Unfortunately, however, the regime gradually succeeded in slowing down the Kurdish political involvement in the uprising by creating division and internal fighting amongst the Kurdish political organisations; and by using a variety of tactics to dismantle the Kurdish youth movement. These tactics that included the use of threats, spreading fear, arrests … forced many to become silent or leave the country altogether. However, the regime failed to subdue the Kurdish intelligentsia or to turn them into their supporters.
