The U.S.’s Arm’s Length Approach to Syria is Backfiring

As top politicians representing the Syrian opposition pushed their case with world leaders on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly last week, a dozen rebel brigades inside Syria, fed up with waiting for elusive Western support, issued a joint statement rejecting their political leaders and called on both military and civilian groups in Syria to “consolidate under an Islamic framework … with Sharia as the main source of legislation.”
URGENT APPEAL TO THE WORLD COMMUNITY
You have probably not heard of Moadamiyyat Ash Sham for the last month. Instead you have heard about the confiscation of Syria’s chemical weapons or the supposed tales of “extremists” who are now dominating Syria’s insurgency.
Those stories divert from what is happening. Those stories distract us from the real tragedy, because the stories tell us not to intervene…..
If you do not take action, there is nothing that will be done for those 10,000 people still in Moadamiyyat Ash Sham. You are going to continue to watch as people continue to starve, disappear, and die.
Or, rather, you may choose not to watch, but that price will still be paid.

In the report that has been seen by weekly magazine Der Spiegel, it is stated that a growing number of German jihadists are heading to Syria to join the al-Qaida fronts. According to German intelligence, some 200 Islamists from across the country have gathered in northern Syria in what’s been dubbed the “German Camp.”

The city of Muadamiyah has been under siege for over a year now. The people of Muadamiyah face starvation and death, as Assad’s forces deny these civilians access to basic food, water, and medicine. It has become clear that the Assad regime is following a systematic policy of starvation and intimidation against civilians in different areas across Syria.

20 October 2013 15:51 – Yesterday morning around 05.00 ISIL kidnapped 24 Kurdish civilians from the village Qetîne which is located 6 km south of Serê Kaniyê (Ras al-Ayn). Several homes were looted and burned to the ground. After several hours 20 hostages were released. Yûsif El-Nûrî, Hemê Ibrehîm, Ehmed Qedûr and Xalid Sadiq remain in captivity. Qetîne is a pre-dominantly Kurdish village.
Free Municipality in Hesekê
20 October 2013 15:15 hawarnews – HESEKÊ – Free Municipality of Hesekê that was established on September 2, started its public services.
People Assembly of Hesekê established the Free Municipality because the previous one, Syrian Municipality, was not working due to the civil war.The new municipality opened its first center in Til Hecer neighborhood. There are 21 people now working in the municipality some of whom are Arab residents working with Kurds to clean the streets, parks and lights on the ways. Members of the municipality stated that now they are working in Til Hecer, Miftî, Salihiye, Nasra and Kelase neighborhoods and will serve the remaining neighborhoods as soon as possible.

The four parties are: the Freedom Party (led by Mustafa Cumma), Freedom Party (led by Mustafa Osso), Kurdistani United Party (Abdulbasit Hemo), and KDP-S.

A British doctor who recently returned from five weeks volunteering in Syrian hospitals has told British media that he witnessed “horrific” war crimes, including snipers who targeted babies in the womb. Dr. David Nott said the pattern of injuries that he and other doctors saw led to the conclusion that fighters were using civilians for target practice.
