Syrian Helicopters Drop ‘Barrel Bombs’ on Town, Killing 20
1-12-2013 – Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says death toll could rise because many people were severely wounded in Al-Bab raidMore

Syria’s deadly barrel bombs

THE Syrian regime has deployed a deadly new home-made weapon in addition to its large arsenal of Russian-supplied armaments: bombs packed inside large oil drums and dropped from helicopters. Filled with TNT, oil and chunks of steel, the exploding barrels kill and maim across a wider area than high explosives.

Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq » Hizballah Cavalcade: The Songs of Liwa’a Abu Fadl al-Abbas: Militant Iraqi Shia Music & Syria

Remember the war against Franco? / That’s the kind where each of us belongs.

Though he may have won all the battles, / We had all the good songs.

–        Tom Lehrer, “The Folk Song Army”, 1965.

The author has counted at least thirty different songs available online which have been produced to praise LAFA. Most of these songs were not included due to their lack of popularity in LAFA social media circles.

When journalist Nicholas Blanford first announced Iraqi Shia were fighting alongside the forces of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, his main source for this assessment was a music video.[1] From a period extending from fall 2012-summer 2013, Shia Islamist organizations operating in Syria have released more music videos and have been actively using them in a complex messaging strategy.

KNC & PYD meet in Qamishli

ANHA reports there was a meeting between the PYD’s People’s Council of West-Kurdistan and the Kurdish National Council on Geneva II in Qamishli. It was confirmed by Welati. It’s not clear if the Barzani-backed parties support this plan, but it seems they want to have an unified position for Geneva and reactivate the Supreme Kurdish Council. The upcoming Geneva conference might force the Syrian Kurds to have a more united position, since divided they wouldn’t achieve as much in Geneva II as if they were united. Nevertheless, Yekiti media published an article with the reasons why the KNC didn’t join the interim administration project to clarify the KNC position. The KNC and PYD couldn’t agree on the interim administration project of the PYD neither on working together in the Supreme Kurdish Council.
