MESOP CULTURE : A POEM BY SELAHATTIN DEMIRTAS FRO PRISON

HDP Co-chair Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş’s Poem Has Been banned!

Contagious Courage

They’ll say ‘silence!’

And, they’ll say ‘no colors!’

You would have been rising up in joy,

But they’ll say ‘no roses should blossom’

Then, let’s laugh so that your revolt does not get orphaned.

And, if that’s a crime; then, let it be…

May the smile of people remain fadeless.

They’ll say ‘the sun should not rise!’

And, they’ll pull a gun on hope.

But you will have been rising up in speed.

They’ll put the blame on you.

Then, let’s run so that your revolt does not get lonely!

And, if that’s a crime, then, let it be…

Don’t drive people crazy!

Bulaşıcı cesaret Çıt çıkmasın diyecekler

Renk olmasın diyecekler

MESOP NEWS INDEPTH “NEW CRISIS GROUP REPORT” NUSAYBIN

2 May 2017 – Executive Summary

Nusaybin, a political stronghold of the Kurdish movement bordering Syria, is among Turkey’s urban south-eastern districts that saw unprecedented levels of violence in 2016. Particularly in the wake of the failed July coup attempt and in the run-up to the 2017 presidential system referendum, emergency rule conditions resulted in the arrest and/or removal from office of elected representatives of the legal Kurdish political movement. While conflict fatigue can be observed in this town where 30,000 lost their homes, so can a distinct sense that a political solution is not in sight. Ankara’s effort to meet residents’ basic needs and compensate their material losses is notable, but managing the conflict’s social/political fallout and addressing grievances of Kurdish movement supporters will be crucial if that marginalised constituency is not to be left more susceptible to mobilisation by the insurgent Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and drawn toward violence. MESOP NEWS BACKGROUNDER: ERDOGAN’S COMPLICATED WAY TO GO EASTWARDS !

Why Does Turkey Want to Join the Eurasian Union? – By Areg Galstyan – American Thinker – 2017-05-01

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu states that Ankara and Moscow have come to an agreement on the purchase of the Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile defense system. A number of Russian experts close to the Kremlin note that reaching agreement on this issue is a positive step before the upcoming meeting between the presidents Erdogan and Putin in the Russian city of Sochi. This deal symbolizes a new stage in the crisis in relations between Ankara, Washington, and Brussels. Moreover, it is an evidence of strengthening Russian-Turkish relations. However, in order to understand the logic of these processes, it is necessary to analyze the political background and geopolitical configurations that have been developing in the region and in the world.
