Syrian Revolution News Round- up / Day 601 : Heavy clashes in the heart of Damascus, regime forces kill 192 people

Heavy fighting broke out in more than 66 different points throughout the country, leaving at least 50 regime soldiers dead and more than seven military tanks and a number of armoured vehicles destroyed. The rebels shot down a helicopter gunship as they continued to besiege the artillery base in the Deir Azzour suburb of Mayadin in addition to bombarding the Deir Azzour airbase.

Ahfad al-Rasoul Brigade bombed the heavily-guarded Syrian military headquarters in the heart of the capital for the third consecutive time, leaving many officers and security personnel wounded. The rebels also attacked a number of security points near the state security headquarters in the Maysat square, in addition to a number of military checkpoints in the neighbourhoods of Qabun, Tadamon and Yarmouk refugee camp.

They also stormed a military base in the Damascus suburb of Harasta and bombarded the army command headquarters in the Aleppo suburb of Khan Assal. They ambushed a military convoy in the Aleppo-Latakia highway near the Idlib suburb of Mahambel while taking over tow military checkpoints in the Idlib suburb of Jesser Shughour.

Regime forces intensified their attacks on residential areas across the country reaching more than 212 different areas. They killed as many as 192 people, including 25 children, 15 women, four under torture, and 30 rebel fighters.

In Damascus, more than 86 people, of which 13 died due to the heavy bombardment on the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk and 60 others died due to the indiscriminate airstrikes on the Damascus suburbs of Mesraba, Kafarbatna, Jesrin, Erbin, Douma and other towns in the East Ghouta district. Regime security forces also executed six Palestinians in the provincial town of Sbeneh as they reached a security branch to fetch a body of a relative.

Daraa city was under the heaviest aerial and tanks shelling in the 20-month revolution. Helicopter gunships dropped barrel bombs on residential areas in the neighborhood of Tariq al-Sad, leaving many people dead and dozens more injured. Warplanes heavily bombarded the Palestinian refugee camp as well.At least 41 people died in the suburbs of Idlib due to the indiscriminate airstrikes on the provincial towns of Ma’arrat Noman, Bashiriya, Saraqeb and Arhiha. Meanwhile, regime warplanes targeted a bakery in the Tariq al-Bab neighborhood in Aleppo city leaving a number of people critically injured. Many people also died due to the indiscriminate shelling in the neighborhoods of Sukari and Haydariya while six others were killed in an airstrike on the Aleppo suburb of al-Bab. Regime forces also killed 15 people in Homs, six in Deir Azzour, four in Hama, two in Latakia and one more in Qunaitera.
