Syrian Defense Minister in Qamishli: We won’t let anyone take Hasakah


31.05.2014 – BasNews, Qamishlo – Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij visited Qamishli in Hasakah Province, Syrian Kurdistan and said that the Province is an Arab Province and will not be taken from them.  

The Minister met the Mayor of the city as well as Syrian Military commanders and Ba’athist officials. According to local information, al-Freij’s visit to Qamishli was to re-organize the Syrian Army in Hasakah.

“The people of Hasakah are united and walk hand in hand against those that want to create conflict and disharmony in the Province,” al-Freij said in his speech in Qamishli. He also said that Hasakah is an important part of Syrian Arab republic and will not be given up. Qamishli is known as the capital of Syria’s Kurdish area. The city is still under the control of Syrian regime and since the start of the uprising in early 2011, a number of Syrian high-level officials have visited the city and the Province. According to locals, Syrian Army has two big headquarters in Qamishli, with one of them in the city’s airport and the other in South of the city and there are approximately five thousand regime soldiers in the Province.
