PDKI delegation attended UNPO General Assembly / WITH FULL LIST OF KURDISH POLITICAL PRISONERS
PDKI on December 1, 2012 – A PDKI delegation, headed by Loghman H. Ahmedi, attended the UNPO`s 11th General Assembly. The General Assembly adopted a resolution on Iranian Kurdistan and Abdollah Hejab from the PDKI was elected into the UNPO Presidency. UNPO alsoadopted a new General Resolution, which will be a guidance for UNPO activity for the next 18 months. The focus lays on expanding the rights of stateless nations, minorities, oppressed peoples and recognition of de facto independent States as well as on the right to political participation.
The Assembly calls for the UN Human Rights Council to take a more proactive role in supporting the rights of minorities, by expanding the mandate of the Forum on Minority Issues. Other decisions have also been taken. A new Presidency was elected, consisting of nine UNPO Members namely: Abkhazia, the Crimean Tatars, East Turkestan, Iranian Kurdistan, Khmer Krom, Sindh, Taiwan, the Haratin and the Afrikaners.

The UNPO General Assembly is:
Alarmed by Iran’s continuous policy of suppression and systematic violation of human rights in Kurdistan and other regions of the country populated by non-Persian nations such as the Arabs, Balouchies, Turkmens, Azeris and religious minorities, including Jews, Assyrians, Baha’is, Ahli Haqs and Zoroastrians;
Deeply concerned about detentions without any legal charges, lengthy prison sentences, death penalties, the threat of prosecution and harassment of Kurdish, Balouchi and Arab political activists, writers, journalists, filmmakers, labor activists and defenders of human rights and the rights of the different nations of Iran;
Worried about the fate of tens of Kurdish Political prisoners who have been sentenced to death, among them: Ms. Zeynab Jalaliyann, Habibollah Latifi, Shirko Maarefi, Hossein Khazari, Rashid Akhkandi, Mohammad Amin Agushi, Ahmad Pouladkhani, Saeed Sami Hosseini, Saeed Jamel Mohammadi, Rostam Arkiya, Mostafa Salimi, Habib Goulparipour, Anwar Rostami, Hassan Talai, Iraj Mohammadi, Ramazan Amadi, Farhad Chalesh, Shouresh Mehdi Khani, Anwar Hussain Panahi, Arsalan Awliay, Fasih Yasamini, Abdullah Sarwariyan, Ali Afshari, Habib Afshari, Muhammad Abdullahi, Ali Muhammadzadeh, Zaniyar Muradi, Lughman Muradi and Reza Ismaili;
Deeply disturbed about the health condition of the imprisoned head of the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, Mr. Muhammad Sadigh Kaboudvand;
Distressed over Iran’s continued practice of article 188 /1992 of the country’s criminal code, which considers the members, supporters and followers of any Kurdish, Arab and Balouchi political parties as “Mufsed fee Al Arz” (corrupted on earth), “Mohareb” (enemy of God) and “evil” who must be punished by hanging and execution.
We, the UNPO General Assembly:
Condemn the extensive violations of human rights all over Iran, especially in the Kurdish, Arab, Balouchi and Turkmen regions, including ill-treatment of imprisoned women and children;
Call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Kaboudvand and all other human rights, women’s rights activists and defenders of the rights of the different nations and minorities, who have been arrested in Iran in violation of Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is a signatory;
Call upon the UN and European Parliament to put pressure on Iran with respect to the following demands;
– To stop the ill-treatment and torture of women and children in Iranian prisons;
– To stop targeting Kurdish, Balouchi and Arab citizens;
– Top stop executing political prisoners and prisoners of conscience and to ratify the First Optional Protocol of the ICCPR, providing for the abolition of the death penalty in line with the growing trend in international law;
– To fulfill its obligations to Article 19 of the ICCPR and immediately and unconditionally release all those currently detained in Iran for peacefully exercising their right of free expression;
– To respect the right to freedom of expression, as required by international law, including Article 19 of the ICCPR and Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
