The Syrian economy has not looked in a worse position for decades with few options for the bankrupt regime.
As the Syrian pound dropped to a new low this week, while the price of basic goods continued to skyrocket, pro-regime circles scurried to attribute blame for the country’s recent economic woes.
The usual culprits were brought forward on pro-regime social media: the US, oligarchs, corrupt officials – anyone but Bashar Al-Assad.
New protests have broken out in Suweidah against the government and there are more vocal grumblings about the financial situation among regime loyalists.

A recent YouGov poll showed that fewer than 20 percent of Americans of all parties supported any cutting of police funding—a finding consistent with decades of polling.

Ein avantgardistisches Gedicht von Amiri Baraka alias LeRoi Jones, welches der schwarze Poet auf dem musikalischen Resonanzboden des New York Art Quartetts 1964 für eine Schallplattenaufnahme einsprach, enthält einen sogar in der wilden Zeit des Free Jazz ungewöhnlich freizügigen Appell: »Come up, black dada nihilismus / Rape the white girls / Rape their fathers / Cut their mothers’ throats.«’
Wer in dieser Beschwörung schwarzer Gewalt bloß eine politische Provokation oder einen ästhetisch neutralisierten Ausdruck allzu verständlicher schwarzer Rachephantasien sehen wollte, konnte sich von Eldridge Cleaver eines Besseren belehren lassen. Unerschrocken gab der Mitbegründer der Black Panther Party preis, daß diese lyrischen Zeilen durchaus gelebtes Leben, auch sein eigenes, widerspiegelten: »I have lived those lines and I know that if I had not been apprehended I would have slit some white throats.«
Und selbstredend wußte Cleaver für diese sexualisierte Gewaltkultur, die ihn selber einmal ins Gefängnis brachte, gute politische Gründe vorzubringen: »Rape was an insurrectionary act. It delighted me that I was defying and trampling upon the white man’s law, upon his system of values, and that I was defiling his women. […] There are, of course, many young blacks out there right now who are slitting white throats and raping the white girl. They are not doing this because they read LeRoi Jones’ poetry, as some of his critics seem to believe. Rather, LeRoi is expressing the funky facts of life.«2
