| Devlet Bahceli, leader of Turkey’s far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), took to Twitter today to shoot down conjecture that his informal alliance with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in its death throes. Bahceli declared that his alliance with Erdogan, which was “a standard-bearer of tranquility for our honorable people and yet unborn Turkish children,” would continue “no matter the cost.” Those who claimed the opposite were liars seeking to sow discord, he said.
Bahceli also pooh-poohed the notion that Erdogan was looking for new allies in the run-up to possible early elections before 2023 when they are due to be held. Erdogan has been meeting with the leaders of several smaller parties, including the Islamist Felicity Party and the ultranationalist Grand Unity Party, over the past days. Bahceli insisted the visits served to broaden and bolster the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) existing alliance with the MHP. “There is no question of the MHP being upset by these visits. We support them in full,” he said.

Tehran will continue maneuvering to secure a favorable new nuclear deal with the Biden administration, likely using a combination of bluffs and escalation.
In explaining its intention to reverse the Trump administration’s 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the incoming Biden team has focused on constraining various technical aspects of Iran’s nuclear program, particularly the number and type of high-speed centrifuges it uses to separate the crucial U-235 isotope from natural uranium. In response, Tehran has announced or threatened new nuclear steps in an apparent bid to improve its bargaining position, from resuming “20% enrichment” at its Fordow plant to expelling UN inspectors if sanctions are not lifted.
This could be a dangerous diplomatic game, however.

” Sie schreibt so virtuos, dass sie sich alles erlauben kann”, schwärmt das französische Nachrichtenmagazins „L’Obs” von Yasmina Rezas neuem Roman „Serge” und verklärt die Schriftstellerin zur „Göttin des Gemetzels” — eine Anspielung auf ihr Erfolgstheaterstück „Gott des Gemetzels”, das von Roman Polanski verfilmt wurde. Seit ihrem Bühnenklassiker „Kunst” gehört Reza weltweit zu den meistgespielten Bühnenautoren. Von „Gemetzel” zu sprechen mutet indes geschmacklos an, denn das Thema von „Serge” ist Auschwitz, Höhepunkt der ,Handlung die Beschreibung eines Besuchs in dem Vernichtungslager. Doch es geht Yasmina Reza nicht um die Schoa selbst, sondern um den Kult der Erinnerung, den sie im Roman ad absurdum führt.
