Soll jeder nachweisen, dass er mit seinem Handeln nicht unabsichtlich zur Ausbreitung eines Virus oder zur Schädigung des Klimas beiträgt, stellt man alle Menschen unter Generalverdacht.
1945 erschien Karl Poppers politphilosophisches Meisterwerk «Die offene Gesellschaft und ihre Feinde». Dieses Buch war eine der intellektuellen Grundlagen für die politische Weichenstellung, die man an Winston Churchills Reden in Fulton (Missouri) und Zürich 1946 festmachen kann: die Bildung einer westlichen Staatengemeinschaft, die, auf Freiheit und Rechtsstaat basierend, sich dem Totalitarismus des Sowjetimperiums entgegenstellt. Diese Weichenstellung prägte Politik und Gesellschaft über vier Jahrzehnte. 1989 schien keine neue Weichenstellung erforderlich: Freiheit und Rechtsstaat hatten sich durchgesetzt. Das war ein Irrtum. Die Weichenstellung erfolgt jetzt, im Jahre 2021.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Die Türkei hatte noch nie ein völlig liberales demokratisches Regime. Das Land, das unter dem Autoritarismus der Modernisierungsversuche des kemalistischen Regimes litt, erlebt nun eine andere Form der autoritären Konsolidierung unter der von der AKP kontrollierten Regierung.
Autoritäre Konsolidierung kann als ein staatliches Projekt definiert werden, das von Eliten mit dem Ziel vorangetrieben wird, ihre eigene Führungsposition zu sichern. Während das politische Regime in der Türkei heute noch nicht ganz autoritär ist, bedrohte Präsident Recep Tayyip Erdogan liberale demokratische Prinzipien, indem er 2018 das politische Regime von einem parlamentarischen zu einem Präsidialsystem änderte. Zu den Grundsätzen, die jetzt gefährdet sind, gehören die Medienfreiheit, die Mechanismen der gegenseitigen Kontrolle und die Ausgewogenheit sowie die Rechtsstaatlichkeit.

The blocking of the Suez Canal by a giant container ship was an accident, but next time the blocking of the waterway could be caused by an intentional act of war or terror.
In an article on the Defense One website, Scott Savitz, an engineer and researcher for the Rand Corporation, describes the blocking of shipping routes by ships as an ancient method of war. There were those kinds of operations 1,000 years ago. The British used that method in the two world wars. And in 2014, the Russians blocked entrance to and exit from a port in the Crimean Peninsula by sinking two old ships, thus trapping the majority of the Ukrainian fleet within the port, which made it easier to take over Crimea.

A total of 103 retired admirals from the Turkish navy published a declaration on Saturday night, denouncing the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for “opening up for discussion the Montreux Convention” and for Islamising the army over an active-service rear admiral’s visit to the leader of an extreme religious sect.
“It is met with concern that the Montreux Convention is opened up for discussion within the framework of both Kanal Istanbul and who has the authority to annul international treaties,” the admirals said in their declaration published on secular-nationalist news network Veryansın TV.
The Montreux Convention, signed in Switzerland in 1936, granted Turkey rights to control its two straits, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles, while limiting the passage of warships from the straits to only states with borders to the Black Sea.

Former Jordanian Crown Prince Hamzah bin Hussein has been placed under house arrest amid reports that the kingdom’s security forces have foiled a coup against King Abdullah II. At least 20 Jordanians have been arrested in connection with the alleged coup.
According to The Washington Post, Hamzah was placed under restriction at his Amman palace amid an alleged plot to unseat King Abdullah II.
“The move followed the discovery of what palace officials described as a complex and far-reaching plot that included at least one other Jordanian royal, as well as tribal leaders and members of the country’s security establishment,” the report said.

Der ehemalige jordanische Kronprinz Hamzah bin Hussein wurde unter Hausarrest gestellt, nachdem berichtet wurde, dass die Sicherheitskräfte des Königreichs einen Putsch gegen König Abdullah vereitelt haben und mindestens 20 Jordanier im Zusammenhang mit dem mutmaßlichen Putsch verhaftet wurden.
