BasNews – 7 March 2016 – ANKARA — Turkish Prime Minister has stated that the Sur district of Diyarbakir province will be clear of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) before the end of March.

In an interview with the Turkish ATV channel, PM Ahmet Davutoğlu said that the Turkish government has a plan to reconstruct those Kurdish areas affected by the conflicts between the Turkish army and PKK guerrillas.

He revealed that a specific budget has been allocated for the plan, and it will be launched in the near future.However, the PKK is still in control of some areas in south-eastern Turkey, especially in six neighbourhoods of Sur district in Diyarbakir province.Davutoğlu ensured the government will soon bring the district under its full control “and it is going to happen before the start of spring.” South-eastern Kurdish areas of Turkey have been witnessing deadly clashes between the Turkish army and PKK guerrillas for the last several months after a two-year ceasefire collapsed between the sides in July 2015. The area is heavily affected by violence and a large number of residents have been displaced.
