Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Diyarbakır deputy Altan Tan said on Thursday that he has filed a criminal complaint against businessmen Hayrettin Özaltın and Mehmet Cengiz, accusing them of insulting Kurdish people in comments made in several wiretappings that became public towards the end of last month. Speaking at a press conference, Tan reacted angrily to comments Cengiz is heard making in a voice recording. He added that his party had brought the recordings of the legal wiretappings to Parliament and handed them to officials. “These people are using statements such as ‘the best Kurd is a dead Kurd.’ These are the same businessmen who received tenders to build dams, bridges and roads in the provinces of Diyarbakır and Van. They even got the Arbil airport tender as well,” said Tan. Tan also stated that he had sent an official letter to Parliament and asked if the government is planning to give more tenders to a person who insults the public with such remarks. “I wonder if Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be able to cover up this issue. If he can, I will say well done to him,” said Tan.
