TODAY’S MESOP ANTI-MOTTO ON WOMEN’S DAY : ENLIGHTET WOMEN REBORN INTO ABDULLAH OCALAN ?

International Women’s Day Statement – By Peace in Kurdistan Campaign

‘Women, reborn to freedom, will amount to general liberation, enlightenment and justice in all institutions of society…the 21th century “must” be the area of awakening, the era of the liberated, emancipated women’ by Abdullah Ocalan – www.mesop.de

APO – A GREAT “WOMANIZER”

“Apo, as charismatic, earthy leader, was able to handpick the women and virgin girls that most appealed to him and gather them around him in his safe houses and training schools where they served him like handmaidens, cooking, cleaning, flattering and some standing guard over him, much like the privileges enjoyed by Saddam Hussein, Muammar Qadaffi and their sons with female admirers – or frightened conquests.”

MESOP : APO – THE KURDISH KIM YONG IL & THE JACOBINS

“An excellent analysis of PKK policy and methodology appears in the European Journal of Turkish Studies co-authored by Ahmet Hamdi Akkaya and Joost Jongerden recognising that “The PKK, which can be criticized for the lack of democracy in its own ranks, is at the same time developing a program of radical democracy. This may be referred to as a ‘Jacobin paradox’. It was the Jacobins, responsible for the reign of terror, who developed democracy as a political project (Žižek 2007). The PKK is Jacobin in the sense that it simultaneously uses violence as an instrument for the realization of its political program of radical democracy.”

GREAT ARTICLE BY SHERI LAIZER (FRANCE)

MESOP : APO ON WOMEN’S DAY – THE WRONG CHOICE FOR KURDS & KURDISTAN

Can Apo Save The Kurds? – By Sheri Laizer in France – | Special to Ekurd.net – Will the PKK return to its original Manifesto endorsing a ‘national liberation struggle’ for a greater Kurdistan given Kurdish territorial gains beyond the watchtowers and the barbed wire in Rojava and the quasi-independent Kurdistan region of Iraq?

Five young men wearing flared trousers and fitting shirts, in keeping with the fashions of the mid 1970s, walk side by side smoking cigarettes and discussing the goals of the Turkish left. Among them is Abdullah Öcalan, Apo, not yet envisioned as group ‘leader’. (Apo the Kurdish abbreviation of the longer name Abdullah, like Memo for Mehmet and Hemo for Hamit). It did not mean ‘Uncle’ as some said much later. One of the group of friends, Necdet (a pseudonym) recalls: “Apo did not shine brighter than anyone else. It surprised me at first when he became leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party. He wasn’t smarter, wasn’t even as sophisticated as some of the others that were serious intellectuals. No one listened to him more than to any other. How things changed!” Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=71922

WEST KURDISTAN SYRIA)

MESOP TODAYS ANALYSIS RECOMMENDATION BY FINANCIAL TIMES ON SYRIA

Syria ‘cessation’ cements new status quo on the ground

Erika Solomon in Beirut – Financial Times – 8 March 2016 – After little more than a week the “cessation of hostilities” in Syria has slowed the bloodshed but maintained a patchwork of battle zones across the country — a new status quo that may do little to end the conflict, but will probably be enough for a US administration keen to push for a settlement and avoid further entanglement. For Syria’s opposition, which launched the 2011 revolt against President Bashar al-Assad’s rule, the overall situation is still an improvement on conditions before the ceasefire. There has been a marked drop in violence in some parts of their territory — such as the southern regions held by rebels close to Jordan and Saudi Arabia. But the High Negotiations Committee (HNC), which represents the opposition at peace talks in Geneva, argues conditions are not good enough to guarantee it will return to negotiations this month. MESOP TODAYS GENERAL SITUATION IN SYRIA / CEASEFIRE – Pro-Regime Airstrike & Jabhat al-Nusra Offensive Test Ceasefire

by Scott Lucas – eaworldview – UPDATE 0800 GMT: Jund al-Aqsa and Jabhat al-Nusra have withdrawn from the hills around the village of al-Eis, south of Aleppo. Local sources said the factions withdrew as Russia bombed the area. The jihadists claimed they killed more than 60 pro-regime foreign militia.

ORIGINAL ENTRY: Syria’s cessation of hostilities was tested on two fronts on Monday: a pro-Assad airstrike killing at least 20 people in a fuel market in Idlib Province in northwest Syria, and two jihadist factions attacked pro-regime foreign militia south of Aleppo city. The Russian or regime strike hit Abu Duhur, south of Idlib city, wounding another 40 people. MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY : HOW TO PREVENT AL-QAEDA FROM SEIZING A SAFE ZONE IN NORTHWESTERN SYRIA

PolicyWatch 2579 – March 7, 2016 –   By Fabrice Balanche – Fabrice Balanche, an associate professor and research director at the University of Lyon 2, is a visiting fellow at The Washington Institute.

Strong ground support for moderate rebels would be needed to keep any buffer zone in the northwest from falling under the control of al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate.

In theory, Syria’s Idlib province and the eastern part of Aleppo province could serve as safe zones with international protection, since both areas are open to Turkey and could easily receive humanitarian aid from UN agencies and various NGOs (see PolicyWatch 2570, “Two Potential Safe Zones in Northern Syria,” http://washin.st/1Q0UDud ). Yet one of the most formidable obstacles to the Idlib option is the presence of radical jihadist groups there, particularly al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra (JN). Throughout rebel-held western Aleppo and Idlib, “moderate” rebel factions would face a serious challenge fending off JN forces. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=71911

By Benjamin Harvey – Bloomberg – 8 March 2017 – The European Union is making an historic mistake in its haste to conclude a refugee deal with Turkey, overlooking human rights violations that risk plunging the bloc’s largest membership candidate into civil war, said Selahattin Demirtas, leader of the nation’s most prominent pro-Kurdish party.
