MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY

Turkey’s Fake War on Jihadis – by Burak Bekdil

The Gatestone Institute – April 28, 2016 – Although nominally participating in the international coalition fighting the Islamic State, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has covertly aided its advance. In theory, Turkey is part of the international coalition that fights the Islamic State (IS). Since it joined the fight last year, it has arrested scores of IS militants, made some efforts to seal its porous border with Syria and tagged IS as a terrorist organization. Turkish police have raided homes of suspected IS operatives. More recently, Turkey’s Interior Ministry updated its list of “wanted terrorists” to include 23 IS militants, and offered rewards of more than 42 million Turkish liras (more than $14 million) for any information leading to the suspects’ capture. But this is only part of the story. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=73668

MESOP Arguments & Analysis – “How the ‘Green Zone’ Helped Destroy Iraq” (Emma Sky, Politico Magazine)

“Originally established in 2003 to protect the American occupiers, the walled-in Green Zone was supposed to have been temporary. But Iraqi elites took it over after the Americans left, spending public money on their mansions, generators, cars, security details, homes overseas and payouts to cronies. In this way the Green Zone has come to symbolize all that is wrong with the legitimacy and capability of Iraq’s government. Safe behind the concrete blast walls and razor wire — at least until Saturday — Iraq’s political elites live in splendid isolation, totally unaccountable to the Iraqi people and using the country’s oil wealth to fund their own luxurious lifestyles.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=73680

MESOP ARGUMENTS & ANALYSIS (II) : “Developing Long-Term Socioeconomic Strategy in Israel: Institutions, Processes, and Supporting Information”

(Howard J. Shatz, Steven W. Popper, Sami Friedrich, Shmuel Abramzon, Anat Brodsky, Roni Harel, Ofir Cohen, Rand Corporation)

“Israel’s macroeconomic performance since the mid-1980s has been admirable. Growth of gross domestic product and high-technology exports, for example, has been higher than in the countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as a group and in the world as a whole. Even with this growth, inflation in Israel has generally run lower than in the OECD and the world since 2000.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=73682

MESOP REPORT : Aleppo on verge of decisive battle – Aleppo may be last stand for Salafi groups

AL MONITOR  2 May 2016 -UN Syria Envoy Staffan de Mistura has called for an “urgent initiative” by the United States and Russia, including a ministerial meeting of the International Syria Support Group, to re-establish a cessation of hostilities in Syria. WEST KURDISTAN (SYRIA)

MESOP : OBAMA’S CONDITIONS FOR SYRIAN REBELS –  Claim –  US-Led Operations Center Sets Conditions on Support for Rebels

May 02 – 2016 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview -The pro-opposition Syrian Mirror claims that the US-led Military Operations Center, based in Jordan’s capital Amman, has set political conditions for support to rebels.

According to a rebel commander of a faction based in Idlib Province in northwest Syria, the MOC summoned representatives of all groups except those based in Homs and the Southern region.

The Colonel, who works with the MOC, said the foreign officials stated:

  1. Destruction of military and security structures in Syria is a “red line”;
    2. President Assad can be removed but the regime structure will remain;
    3. The Syrian opposition must not demand a war crimes trial for Assad or 250 regime members who will escort him out of the country — this is a Russian condition for the end of the conflict. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=73686

MESOP Syria Daily: Russia Says Talks for Aleppo Ceasefire — But Regime Keeps Bombing

May 02 – 2016 – Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Russia said on Sunday that talks are underway to include Aleppo in a renewed cessation of hostilities, but regime warplanes bombed opposition areas for the 11th straight day.A Russian Defense Ministry official said discussions had begun to “establish a regime of calm also in Aleppo province”. US Secretary of State John Kerry, in Geneva on Sunday for meetings with Jordanian and Saudi counterparts, said he hoped to be able to reaffirm the cessation of hostilities after the conversations.

“These are critical hours,” Kerry said. “We look for Russia’s cooperation, and we obviously look for the regime to listen to Russia and to respond.”The Local Coordination Committees recorded another 14 deaths in Aleppo Province yesterday. Since April 21, more than 250 civilians have been killed by Russian and regime attacks, including 55 in a missile assault on Al-Quds Hospital. Unconfirmed reports are circulating on Monday morning of regime attacks, including missiles and barrel bombs,causing casualties in opposition-held villages west of Aleppo city.

State media continued its claims of civilian deaths from rebel shelling on regime-held parts of Aleppo, saying six people died on Sunday. The SANA news agency provided no evidence for the assertion in a brief item on its English-language site.The rebel bloc Jaish al-Fateh issued a video statement on Sunday denying any responsibility for shelling and blaming the Syrian military for the attacks to falsely blame the opposition.

Last Friday, the Assad regime declared a brief “regime of silence” in Latakia Province on the Mediterranean and in the East Ghouta area near Damascus, but excluded Aleppo from the truce. Russia and US issued supported statements of support. Washington said it would pursue discussions to include Aleppo, with Kerry expressing “deep concern” on Saturday about the ongoing airstrikes.Meanwhile, the Syrian military quickly resumed operations in East Ghouta, even though the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that the truce had been extended for 24 hours.Pro-regime outlets claimed last night that the village of al-Rukabiyah had been captured, threatening the encirclement of opposition-held areas of East Ghouta. www.mesop.de

MESOP : FÜR VIELE LANGE GEMEINSAME JAHRE DER BLEIERNEN 70er MEIN GUTER GUTER FREUND

In memoriam  : Der Psychoanalytiker Sammy Speier (2.5.1944 – 19.6.2003)
