March 05 – Scott Luas – eaworldview – Amnesty International publishes the latest report documenting Russian and Assad regime airstrikes on medical facilities since last autumn, killing medical staff, patients, and bystanders.
Amnesty’s documentation follows reports by Medecins Sans Frontieres and Physicians for Human Rights on the attacks. Moscow has hit at least 27 facilities since it began bombing on September 30. By: Christopher Kozak (ISW) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his allies in Moscow and Tehran are continuing to complete the encirclement of Aleppo City despite an ostensible ‘cessation of hostilities’ that began on February 27, 2016. Russia resumed its air campaign against the opposition on February 28 following a one day hiatus, concentrating its strikes against the opposition-held northwestern suburbs of Aleppo City. Russia continued to target both Syrian Al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al Nusra and moderate opposition groups indiscriminately despite an international agreement prohibiting strikes on non-terrorist factions. At the same time, pro-regime forces and their local partners continued to mount attacks aimed at securing favorable terrain in advance of future operations in Aleppo Province as previously forecast by ISW. „Es war leichter, mit Leuten von Jabhat al-Nusra als zum Beispiel mit der PKK unterwegs zu sein, weil sie nicht den Anspruch hatten, einen zu kontrollieren. Wir konnten mit verschiedenen Personen reden, während die PKK ein komplettes Besucherprogramm organisiert hatte. Bei der PKK wird man betreut und zwar 24 Stunden am Tag. Man übernachtet bei ihnen und sie kommen überall mit hin. Sie entscheiden, was man machen kann. Und wenn man sagt, dass man gerne mal was anderes machen würde, dann heißt es, dass es schwierig sei.
