MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY : Back Europe & Russia Is Russia afraid to face Saudi and Turkey in Syria? By Muhammad Zahid Gul

MIDDLE EAST MONITOR – Wednesday, 02 March 2016 – The Russian policy in Syria is facing a range of difficulties that make its political and military mission very difficult. Russia is closer to failure than to success, and this cannot be evidenced more than by the fact that former KGB officer, Vladimir Putin, who is ruling Russia like in the days of the Soviet Union, saw the need to support the Russian Orthodox Church and that he resorted, on many occasions, that received wide media coverage, to making appearances alongside the Russian Church Patriarch, since he waged war on Syria. SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ)

MESOP UP TO DATE : Iraq Euphrates River Valley Activity: December 22, 2015 – March 2, 2016

By Emily Anagnostos, Rachel Bessette &ISW Iraq Team

Key Take-Away: The Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) launched operations to retake Ramadi from ISIS on December 22 and established control of the city on February 9. The ISF will need to target remaining ISIS safe havens in the Euphrates River Valley, including Hit and Fallujah, in order to consolidate these gains. These subsequent operations will strengthen the ISF’s long-term operational abilities in Anbar while undermining ISIS’s control along a key line of communication between Iraq and Syria. The ISF will nevertheless face various challenges to clearing and controlling ISIS safe havens in western Anbar. ISIS has already responded by launching counter-attacks against the ISF’s thinly spread forces. These have included coordinated ground attacks and spectacular attacks in Anbar and Baghdad. WEST KURDISTAN (SYRIA)

MESOP Syria Daily: Regime Forces Continue Attacks in Latakia / TRUCE NOT REAL !

3 March 2016 – by Scott Lucas – eaworldview – Despite a “cessation of hostilities” across Syria, regime forces continued attempts to take opposition-held territory in Latakia Province in the west of the country.

The Syrian military, enabled by Russian airstrikes, have advanced in northern Latakia since the start of the year, capturing almost all of the province. However, when the cessation began on Saturday, there were still areas near the Turkish border that are rebel-occupied.Using the pretext that the jihadists of Jabhat al-Nusra — who are not covered by the cessation — are present, the regime forces have continued fighting. Fadi Ahmad, a spokesman for the Free Syrian Army’s First Coastal Division said the Syrian Army had brought in reinforcements: “The battles were today very fierce.” Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=71781

MESOP SPECIAL

MESOP TODAYS ACTUAL SLOGAN OF REFUGEES IN KRAUTLAND : Death before Currywurst !!!!!!!!!

LOS ANGELES TIMES: THEY WILL GO BACK BECAUSE OF INTOLERABLE GERMAN FOOD

Funny reasons for leaving Germany asap ! : “The reasons are myriad, but include overcrowded refugee centers, exasperating bureaucracy, unfamiliar German food, a lack of jobs” . –

Good words: he knows about the honest existence of a well functioning + honest bureaucracy all over Iraq where Germans are regulary served with their familian food. And jobs für now about 2 Millionen people – well payed: quite easily done.

German Food Is Driving Refugees Back to the War Zones They Came From

By Hamilton Nolan (GAWKER) – They came to Germany in search of better lives. But they left Germany in search of better food.

3 March 2016 – For those of you seeking to add a little levity to the ongoing discussion of the European refugee crisis, you won’t do any better than today’s LA Times report on the growing wave of refugees who fled war and misery and came to Germany and who are now going back to the war and misery, because fuck Germany. There are many reasons why a growing number of refugees are becoming disillusioned with their new homeland: poor housing, lack of economic opportunity, distrust from the local citizens, isolation from friends and family.

But also:    “The food was terrible, so disgusting that not even animals should be fed it.”

People ready to go back to Iraq, where you can get blown up by ISIS at a funeral, rather than tolerating one more week of this slop!    “I’m tired of being treated like an animal, of living in a giant room with hundreds of others and getting horrible food and having to take cold showers.”

Death before currywurst!!!!!!!!!

Refugees buying one-way tickets home after finding Germany intolerable

Erik Kirschbaum – LOS ANGELES TIMES – 2 March 2016 – With a one-way ticket home to Iraq in his hands and seven months’ worth of frustration over intransigent German bureaucracy in his heart, Gazwan Abdulhasen Abdulla gave up on his dreams of a better life in Europe.

Homesick and eager to be back with his wife and four small children in Basra, Abdulla was giving up his refugee status as he boarded a crowded Iraqi Airways flight from Berlin’s Tegel Airport to Baghdad that would whisk him and 150 other disillusioned former refugees back home in five hours. WEST KURDISTAN (SYRIA)

MESOP TODAYS OPINION ON SYRIA – BY ARON LUND (CARNEGIE ENDOWMENT)

THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2016+It might not seem like the most important of Syria’s many problems, but linguistic accuracy has its merits. In diplomacy, it can be quite crucial.

On February 27, a five-day old Russian- and American-backed agreement silenced the guns in much of Syria. Continuing Syrian regime and Russian attacks on rebel-held positions in the north brought forth allegations of violations almost immediately.  But in any event, what should we call the new arrangement? Most reporting has spoken of a ceasefire, which is a well-known and easily understandable term. A nationwide ceasefire in Syria is also a goal of the so-called Geneva III peace talks, which are currently on hold but planned to relaunch on March 9. MESOP : SYRIA DIRECT – Despite fewer airstrikes, ‘ceasefire is not protecting civilians’ in northeast Latakia

AMMAN: 3 March 2016 – An internationally brokered ceasefire in its sixth day “is not protecting civilians” in the Latakia countryside and neighboring Idlib province, activists and a rebel spokesman told Syria Direct on Wednesday as the Syrian regime and its opponents trade accusations of violations.Multiple shells fell near the a-Safyat camp for internally displaced people in Jabal al-Akrad, less than 1km from the Turkish border on Tuesday, activists and rebels told Syria Direct. MESOP INSIGHT : Russia and Assad “Weaponizing” Refugees, Says U.S. General

In testimony to the U.S. Armed Services Committee, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Philip Breedlove said that Russia and the Assad regime are “weaponizing” the exodus of refugees fleeing Syria with the goal of weakening the NATO alliance. NORTH KURDISTAN (TURKEY)

MESOP : DHKP/C – Trained & armed b PKK in Kandil Camps – Militants Killed After Attack On Turkish Police

Two women attacked (Hurriyet) an Istanbul police station, firing weapons and tossing grenades, before being killed by police. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left two police officers injured, but Turkish media suggested they had ties to the radical leftist group DHKP/C, which has mounted similar attacks in recent years. MESOP TODAYS OPINION ON ANKARA & ERDOGAN – By BARÇIN YİNANÇ – Turkey doesn’t want Syria to be left to the regime and the Kurds

2 March 2016 – Commentary Hurriyet – “You have fought a war with the [outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] PKK for 30 years but you have not won,” said a foreign leader recently, talking to a Turkish interlocutor.

“The PKK has fought Turkey for 30 years. It hasn’t won either. Perhaps it too should be told,” was the reply. Many people blame Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ambition to change Turkey’s parliamentary system to a presidential system for the collapse of the ceasefire with the PKK and the suspension of the peace process last summer. Indeed, if the Justice and Development Party (AKP) had succeeded in getting enough votes to form a single-party government after the June 2015 election, we could have faced a different picture both in Turkey and in Syria. The end of the ceasefire and the ensuing conflict in the southeast, together with deadly attacks in cities like Ankara and Istanbul, ended up helping the AKP win the subsequent Nov. 1 election, enabling it to form a single-party government. While those who blame the president and the AKP for the instability and violence in the country may be justified, one should also not ignore the role played by the PKK in sabotaging peace in Turkey. The PKK leadership in the Kandil Mountains eagerly, willingly and almost with joy jumped on the opportunity to turn Turkey into a bloodbath. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=71800

SOUTH KURDISTAN (IRAQ)

MESOP MUSINGS ON IRAQ By JOEL WING – Kurdistan and Iraqi Central Governments Still Arguing Over Budget

2 March 2016 – Baghdad and Irbil are still arguing over the national budget. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki cut off money to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over its independent oil sales. Then at the start of Premier Haidar Abadi’s administration a temporary deal was made whereby the Kurds delivered oil for the central government, but that eventually broke down when neither side met their obligations. In February, PM Abadi said that Baghdad would pay KRG salaries in return for Kurdish exports, which Irbil then accepted. It didn’t appear that either side was serious about their remarks showing the continued divide between the two. Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=71798

MESOP : FRIEDENSBEWEGUNG & LINKE KENNEN KEINE RUSSISCHEN BOMBEN
