Not Less than 79 Documented Breaches and the Death of 13 civilians since the Beginning of the Ceasefire Agreement
2 March 2016 – SNHR issued its third report about the ceasefire agreement that started on Saturday, February 27, as they recorded 44 breaches, 27 breaches by combat, 17 breaches by government forces arrests, the report recorded government forces committing 20 breaches by combats while suspected Russian forces committed 6 breaches, Kurd Self-management forces committed a breach, making the overall number of breaches committed 79 since the beginning of the truce in February 27. At the start of February, an attempt at “proximity talks” between the Assad regime and an opposition-rebel bloc lasted less than five days, as Russia stepped up bombing during the meetings. MESOP CEASEFIRE-WATCH – Syrian Offensive in Latakia Continues Despite Ceasefire
Syrian government troops are continuing an assault on rebel positions in Latakia Province today, despite the internationally-brokered ceasefire remaining in effect. In particular, Assad regime forces are trying to seize Kabani Hill, a strategic position overlooking the rebel-held city of Jisr al-Shughour. Jabhat al-Nusra, which is not a party to the ceasefire, is present in the area, but so are more moderate rebel groups. “The regime and militias are trying to storm (the hill) under very fierce Russian air cover and artillery fire,” a Free Syrian Army spokesman spokesman told Reuters. 2 March 2016 – AMMAN: On Saturday, the same day that the ceasefire went into effect in Syria, the US State Department established a hotline to record reported breaches of it. Late Saturday night, Syria Direct reporter Osama Abu Zeid posted the following news item on his personal Facebook page: “Calm after [ceasefire] violations, with mortar shells fired on Aleppo, Homs, Telbisa, Latakia, Hama and Daraa.” Fellow reporter Ammar Hamou replied on Facebook that the Americans had set up a hotline to report ceasefire breaches, but he did not have enough phone credit to call Washington DC. Reporter Orion Wilcox offered to call in and report it.“I called at 12:45am Saturday morning, just 45 minutes into the ceasefire,” says Syria Direct reporter Wilcox. MESOP BREAKING : US authorizes $683 million smart bomb deal for Turkey
The Pentagon has authorized a multimillion dollar deal to sell smart bombs to Ankara as the Turkish government escalates tensions across the Middle East.
Washington has chosen to award a $682.9 million contract which will provide Ankara with an undisclosed number of smart bombs, Sputnik reported. “The deal came timely as we are deeply engaged in asymmetrical warfare and need smart bombs,” one Turkish military official said, according to Defense News. The contract was granted to Ellwood National Forge and General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, and includes the sale of an unnamed number of BLU-109 bunker busters. These bombs contain roughly 550 pounds of a high explosive compound known as tritonal, and thanks to tail fuse delays, the bomb’s detonation is stalled until it reaches its intended underground target. This is the first such sale to Turkey by US defense contractors, and Ankara expects the transaction to be completed by 2020. www.mesop.de

ISTANBUL – Doğan News Agency – 2 March 2016 – A Russian warship has traversed Turkey’s Bosphorus en route to the Black Sea amid tight security measures. The warship was accompanied by two boats and a ship from the Turkish Coast Guard in addition to a police helicopter.

Und wenn diese Nationalhymnen irgendwie doch alle zu sehr auf national gebürstet sind? Dann werden sie umgedichtet. So wie jüngst in Schweden. – 02.03.2016, von Klaus Ungerer – FAZ
In Schweden haben sie jetzt die Nationalhymne umgeschrieben. Und da ein derartiger Eingriff besser nicht leichthin oder gar spontan vorgenommen wird – „Brüh’ im Lichte dieses Glückes“ von Sarah Connor, nie recht verstanden worden –, hat man ihn im Zentralereignis des schwedischen Seelenlebens verankert: Im Vorausscheid für den Eurovision Song Contest, „Melodifestivalen“.
Hier wurden nun alte schwedische Volksweisen auf Arabisch und Hebräisch zum Vortrag gebracht (wohingegen von Finnisch, Rätoromanisch und Plattdeutsch nichts überliefert ist, und das bei dem ungeheuren Einfluss von plattdeutsch sprechenden Hansekaufleuten in diesem Land). Vor allem aber durfte ein Kinderchor per upgedateter Hymne die allumarmendst denkbare Botschaft herausschmettern. Wo es seit 1844 in der dem Skandinavier eigenen Euphorie heißt „Jag vill leva, jag vill dö i Norden“ („Ich will leben, ich will sterben im Norden“), so gab man den Kindern „… vill dö på jorden“ zu schmettern, sie wollten also unbedingt „auf der Erde“ sterben.
