MESOP TODAYS COMMENTARY : THE TURKEY ANALYST / SILK ROAD STUDIES

The Sound of Footsteps: Erdogan’s New Enemies Within Featured – By Gareth H. Jenkins

March 8, 2016 – Former President Abdullah Gül’s recent decision to adopt a higher public profile and meet with known dissidents from inside the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has triggered a flurry of speculation that his successor, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, may be about to face a serious challenge to his flailing attempts to tighten his grip on power.

BACKGROUND: There have long been many members of the AKP who have been appalled by Erdoğan’s growing authoritarianism, the self-aggrandizing extravagance of his new palace, the persistent allegations of corruption involving his inner circle, and the abrasive divisiveness of his vituperative rhetoric.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=72329

MESOP : PRODUCED WITH A SOFT HELPING HAND OF PETER GALBRAITH

OFFICIAL  Document of the Democratic Federal System of Rojava -Northern Syria

Chaos and societal crisis continue in Syria and the Middle East, because external parties’ intervention is part of the crisis and one of its causes. Options to solve the crisis remain pointless and foreign intervention has complicated the situation and deepened the crisis further. Despite the attempts by the United Nations and the international coalition forces, the Syrian war continues and has become one of the greatest tragedies in the contemporary history of humanity. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, cities have been destroyed and there are now millions of refugees, all indicating a major disaster in Syria and Kurdistan. We are in a phase more extreme and brutal than the Mongol invasions and conquests, and a darker period than Al Jahiliyyah. Syria today is witnessing an extraordinary phase of massacres – an unbearable burden on human conscience.  Read all http://www.mesop.de/?p=72327

MESOP : SAMPLER OF EXPERTS –  Syria Analysis –  Could Putin’s Withdrawal Backfire?

The Center on Global Interests asks six analysts, including EA’s Scott Lucas, about the likely consequences for Russia of President Vladimir Putin’s declaration that “most” Russian forces will be withdrawn from Syria:“A WELL-CALCULATED AND LOGICAL DECISION”

Yuri Barmin, Strategic Risk Consultant

One of the reasons Putin decided to start withdrawing forces is precisely to avoid a possible backlash, both military and political. Clearly, for the money and forces that Russia has contributed to this operation, it has received close to the best possible result, and the Kremlin must have understood that there is a limit to which they can prop up Assad without contributing ground forces. A Political Comeback for the Turkish Military? Featured By Lars Haugom

March 11, 2016 – THE TURKEY ANALYST / SILK ROAD STUDIES  –

The Turkish military has no known intention to intervene in the political decision-making process. However, the military has retained a capacity to do so – both by means of its continued role in security policy making and its relative institutional autonomy. The extent of any military involvement in politics will largely depend on how the Kurdish issue is handled by the government. But it is still highly unlikely that any such involvement will take the form of a direct intervention. Read more : http://www.mesop.de/?p=72331

MESOP : DIE “AUTONOMIE” IN SYRIEN-ROJAVA IST NICHT DIE DER KURDEN – SONDERN JENE EINER STALINISTISCHEN KADERPARTEI PYD/PKK – Neuer Bericht: VON „KURDWATCH“ – MÄRZ  2016

Ethnische Säuberungen in Tall Abyad?
