PKK’s Sinjar Withdrawal Ordered by Abdullah Ocalan: Report

5 Apr 2018 – A media source claimed on Tuesday that the withdrawal of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas from Sinjar was ordered by the party’s jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan.The London-based Al-Hayat said in a report that Ocalan’s decision was to prevent any Turkish military offensive on the Yezidi-populated city in northern Iraq. According to the report, the United States has also had a role in the process.

It also claimed that the Iraqi troops and Kurdish Peshmerga forces are expected to replace the PKK positions in Sinjar region.After taking over Afrin in northern Syria, Turkey threatened to expand its anti-PKK operation to northern Iraq, specifically to Sinjar.The PKK, in a rapid decision, announced that it would pull out of the region as its mission to secure the area for Yezidis has already been accomplished.
