Lavrov: Delegations from France, US visit Russia for consultations on Karabakh

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov revealed that two delegations from France and the United States will visit Moscow to discuss the ceasefire agreement in Karabakh.

WORLD-Middle East 12 Nov 2020, Thu – amThe Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that two delegations from France and the United States will visit Moscow in the coming days to consult on Karabakh and discuss the agreements that have been reached, according to the Russian RIA Novosti agency.

“We offered to the UN Security Council to welcome the ceasefire agreements that were reached in Karabakh,” Lavrov said in a press conference on the internet.

Lavrov emphasized that this agreement is in line with the initiatives the co-chairs of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe put forward.

Lavrov added, “We do not want in any way to distance ourselves from our American and French colleagues; moreover, we have invited them to Moscow, and they will come to Moscow to engage in a detailed discussion on how they can contribute to the implementation of the agreements that have been reached.”

On November 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani Ilham Aliyev signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Karabakh and the deployment of Russian peacekeepers on the contact line between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides to monitor the two parties’ commitment to the agreement.
