MESOPOTAMIA NEWS : Iraq Calls for its Removal from EU’s ‘Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing List’

 

BasNews 2020/07/13 – 00:49 Iraq  – ERBIL – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from his German counterpart Heiko Maas on Sunday, during which he called on Germany to remove Iraq from EU’s ‘money laundering and terrorist financing list’, a statement said.

“The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and the prospects for promoting them to meet the aspirations of the two friendly nations,” a statement by Hussein’s office said. “Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed his keenness to enhance ways of bilateral cooperation with Berlin in various fields.”

According to the press release, the pair also exchanged views on the economic ties and cooperations between Baghdad and Berlin in a way that would benefit both sides.

Concerning the regional political affairs, the Iraqi minister urged Germany “to use its political and economic influence with regional countries to prevent interference in Iraqi internal affairs, pointing out that Iraq’s new foreign policy depends on the equation of finding balanced relations with all countries based on the principle of good neighbourliness , achieving common interests, solving problems by peaceful means, and distancing Iraq and its people from international and regional tensions.”
