. Sept 2016 – Since early 2016, China has increased its mediation efforts to help Syria achieve peace and stability. This study evaluates Chinese mediation efforts in the Syrian conflict by examining its motivations for becoming more involved in the peace process, as well as the implications of China’s longstanding non-interference policy in the Middle East. The Syrian peace process has offered a unique opportunity, and a stage, to predict what kind of role China might play in present and future wars and conflicts in the region. Although Chinese policy has not yet changed fundamentally, Beijing is under increasing pressure to take a more pragmatic and flexible approach in its non-interference policy. The Syrian military and foreign allies such as Hezbollah, enabled by some of the most intensive Russian bombing of its 11-month intervention, finally completed the takeover of an air force college on Sunday morning. MESOP INSIGHT SYRIA TODAY :  Russia Backs Away from the Political Process

5 Sept 2016 – MESOP – US officials in Geneva had said up to yesterday that a deal for 48-hour ceasefires, allowing aid into parts of Aleppo, was imminent. The proposal would also have included US intelligence-sharing with the Russians over attacks on the jihadists of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, while supposedly restricting some airstrikes by the Assad regime.However, by Sunday afternoon, the American officials were saying that Russia had stepped back from any agreement. Diplomats would confer with their capitals, with US Secretary of State John Kerry meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday. www.mesop.de

Amir Abdollahian underlined Iran’s strong support for the Syrian people and government, and congratulated the Syrian army’s recent victories in the war against the terrorist groups, IRNA reported.

5 Sept 2016 – MESOP – The Syrian pro-Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) stated that it is distressed with US silence against Turkey military incursion in Syria, adding that the affiliated forces of the party, People Protection Units (YPG), have withdrawn to eastern part of Euphrates River.Turkey has announced that the PYD should not advance to the western part of the river.The chief of PYD Foreign Relation, Zohat Kobani, told Kurdpress that the party is working with the US against the terrorist group of the Islamic State (IS), expressing his worry and wonder of the US silence against Turkey invasion into northern Syria, an attempt to curb Kurdish advance in the north. MESOP “SYRIA INTEL” : Data of 530 slain Kurdish PYD/PYKK militants: check the list

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Zaman al-Wasl has obtained data of 530 Kurdish fighters who were killed fighting under banners of YPG, YPJ, and PYD militias. – 426 of the deaths were men and 104 were women. 70% of them had come from Turkey and Northern Iraq.

The nominal list that issued 6 months ago is including date of death, Father and mother’s name, militants hometown and the the nome de guerre. Most Kurdish fighters had joined the powerful Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) which is the armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) that was founded in 2003. Iranian delegation in Sulaimaniya to settle PUK disputes: representative

5 Sept 2016 – MESOP  – The Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iran confirmed the travel of an Iranian delegation to Sulaimaniya, the second biggest city in Kurdistan Region and the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and stated that the delegation is to help settling differences in the PUK.

Nazim Dabbagh told Kurdish Radio Nawa that the delegation is to close the stances of different PUK sides and settling disputes in the party. Iran has always played an outstanding role in solving and lessening tensions in Kurdistan Region and has brought peace and reconciliation for the region, he added. Dabbagh further stated that he does not have any information about the travel of the delegation, confirming that Iran is always ready to play a role in solving troubles in the autonomous region. www.mesop.de
