26 August 2016 – QANDIL,— The Kurdistan Workers’ Party PKK Executive Committee member Murat Karayilan stated that Syria’s Jarablus was handed over to Turkey-affiliated groups as part of an agreement with the Islamic State (IS), and the target of the operation was Syrian Kurdistan [Rojava] and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces SDF.

How important is a name to a terrorist group’s identity? When the militant organization Nusra Front announced recently that it was calling itself something else, analysts had good reason to be skeptical about whether the new label really did signal a genuine break from its parent organization al Qaeda. In fact, it probably doesn’t matter. Even if symbolic, the mere rebranding of Nusra could be enough to prolong Syria’s civil war. – The worst-case scenario is that the group, now known as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS ), or Front for the Conquest of the Levant, could embed itself within the Syrian rebel opposition and emulate the staying power that Hezbollah has demonstrated in neighboring Lebanon. August 25, 2016 – QAMISHLI – Turkey-backed Syrian rebel groups and Turkish soldiers on Wednesday took control of the Jarabulus city in a blitz operation. Although Kurds said Turkey is now entering a quagmire it will be difficult to leave from, western analysts suggest that the position of the Kurds look precarious after the Turkish intervention.
“It seems to be a golden rule of geopolitics that a Kurdish army gets shafted by the great powers at least once a generation,” Alexander Clarkson, a lecturer for German and European Studies at King’s College London told ARA News. – “I think with the taking of Tel Rifaat [in Aleppo province] in collusion with Russia and the regime, the YPG [People’s Protection Units] vastly overplayed its hand and overestimated US support,” Clarkson said. 25 Aug 2016 – DIE WELT – Bei der kanadischen Polizei gehört ab sofort der Hidschab zur Uniform. Damit will das Sicherheitsministerium muslimische Frauen anwerben. Auch in Europa zeigt sich ein Land offen für das religiöse Symbol.
Die neue Lockerung der Uniform wurde eingeführt, um “die Vielfalt in der Gesellschaft besser widerzuspiegeln”, sagte ein Sprecher des Ministers für öffentliche Sicherheit Ralph Goodale. “Es soll Frauen mit muslimischem Glauben motivieren, die königliche kanadische berittene Polizei als Karriereoption zu betrachtet”, erklärte er.
