Division among Iraq’s Shabak minority reveals Kurdish-Arab land rivalry
17 Aug 2016 – Al Monitor / MESOP – BAGHDAD,— The Shabak community is one of the cultural minorities in Iraq, speaking a language distinct from Arabic and Kurdish. Its members live on the Nineveh plains with other religious minorities including Christians, Yazidis and Kakais. – Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced Aug. 10 the end of the first and second phases of the Mosul liberation operations. Since the third and last phase will take place this year, per his previous statements, minorities, especially Shabaks, are afraid of a Kurdish-Arab rivalry around their regions. This conflict will reveal divisions among Shabak leaders over their fate and identity. Young activist Hussein al-Shabaki, who lives in a refugee camp in southern Iraq’s Wasit province, is looking forward to returning to his village on the plains. US forces ensured the safety of Russian bombers en route to Syria from an Iranian airbase as the aircraft traversed areas controlled by the US-led coalition, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson Col. Christopher Garver said during a press briefing on Tuesday.

MESOP TODAYS HOURS IN HASAKEH – Calm prevails over Al-Hasakah after Kurdish, government forces clash
By Leith Fadel – – 17/08/2016 – Almasdar News – Al-Hasakah, Syria (11:30 A.M.) – The fierce clashes between the Kurdish police (Asayish) and pro-government “National Defense Forces” (NDF) concluded on Tuesday night after both parties agreed to a open-ended ceasefire.
The Asayish attacked the National Defense Forces near the Central Market of Hasakah City on Tuesday, wounding 9 bystanders, including 2 young children.
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and People’s Protection Units (YPG) would eventually intervene on Tuesday night in order to put an end to the fighting and restore peace to the provincial capital. Occasional gunfire is still heard around the city, but civilians are now permitted to leave their homes. www.mesop.de

Die Stiftung betreibt damit das Projekt „no-nazi.net”, das mit Broschüren, Recherchen, einer Facebookseite, einem Twitteraccount und anderen Social-Media-Kanälen Aufklärung über rechtsradikale und rechtsextreme Strömungen im Netz betreiben will. Manchmal werden die Inhalte von nonazi.net nur von einem Dutzend Nutzern geteilt, was kritische Fragen über den Erfolg erlauben würde. Erheblich mehr Aufmerksamkeit erhielt die Stiftung in letzter Zeit durch einen juristisch fragwürdigen Aufruf zur Denunziation bei Hatespeech-Verdacht, durch eine Kampagne gegen eine humoristische ZDF-Sendung, die auf die frühere Tätigkeit der Stiftungschefin Anetta Kahane als IM Victoria der Stasi anspielte, und durch eine Mitarbeiterin von „no-nazi.net”, die Hatespeech bekämpfen soll und selbst mit hasserfüllten Sprüchen im Netz auffällig wird.
