I’m absolutely ecstatic right now and shaking so much. Regardless of your political affiliations and views, what Trump just did in Syria is, objectively speaking, a true stand against injustice. He just told the most murderous dictator in the world in Bashar Al-Assad that the United States will not stand by and allow him to continue to slaughter and gas his own people without any consequences. This is a move backed by the likes of Hillary Clinton to Rubio to McCain.

April 07 – By Scott Lucas – eaworldview – UPDATE 0715 GMT: The Syrian military has issued a statement acknowledging six killed and “extensive” damage at the Shayrat airbase.
A spokesman said the US strikes would “only encourage terrorists to use chemical weapons at will” whenever they are on the defensive.
UPDATE 0630 GMT: Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov has now condemned the US strikes as “an aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of international law, and under a trumped-up pretext at that”.
Moscow gave no indication of its response.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tehran “roundly condemns any unilateral military action and the missile attacks against al-Shayrat Airbase in Syria by American warships.”
However, as with a statement on Wednesday, Iran did not deny that the Assad regime may have carried out Tuesday’s chemical attack that triggered the US strikes.
Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, “The Islamic Republic, as the biggest victim of chemical weapons in modern history, condemns any application of such weapons, regardless of the perpetrators and victims.”
The US has fired 59 missiles on an airbase from which the Assad regime launched its chemical weapons attack in northwest Syria this week.
Two American destroyed launched the Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat airbase in Homs Province (see map). On Tuesday, a warplane — reportedly a Russian-made Su-22 — fired an air-to-surface missile, apparently filled with a hybrid of a nerve agent and chlorine, that killed more than 100 people and wounded at least 546. At the direction of the president, U.S. forces conducted a cruise missile strike against a Syrian Air Force airfield today at about 8:40 p.m. EDT (4:40 a.m., April 7, in Syria). The strike targeted Shayrat Airfield in Homs governorate, and was in response to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons attack April 4 in Khan Sheikhoun, which killed or injured hundreds of innocent Syrian people, including women and children.
The strike was conducted using Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) launched from the destroyers USS Porter and USS Ross in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. A total of 59 TLAMs targeted aircraft, hardened aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage, ammunition supply bunkers, air defense systems, and radars. As always, the U.S. took extraordinary measures to avoid civilian casualties and to comply with the Law of Armed Conflict. - The U.S. hit a Syrian air base with dozens of missiles in response to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons attack this week that killed more than 80 civilians.
It was Mr. Trump’s first direct order to the military for the use of force. “It is in this vital, national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons,” he said.
- The Syrian crisis cast a shadow over Mr. Trump’s first meeting with President Xi Jinping of China in Florida.
Some of Mr. Trump’s advisers are urging an aggressive challenge to the $300-billion-a-year trade deficit. There is also likely to be an intense U.S. push for China to rein in North Korea.
Sometime after Mr. Xi’s departure, Mr. Trump plans to sign an executive order targeting steel dumping, a measure aimed at China, officials said. Meanwhile, the E.U. has introduced new tariffs on some Chinese steel imports.

Following gas attack, Israel reassesses Syrian threat – By Ben Caspit – Al Monitor – 6 Apr 2017
The horrifying images of the gas attack in Idlib on April 4 shocked many in Israel and led to a wide range of responses in the country, including a call for an emergency Cabinet session by Minister Naftali Bennett.
The Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) Intelligence Division and the Mossad seem to have suffered the greatest shock, however, since they are responsible for assessing the chemical weapons capabilities of the Syrian regime. The fact that the regime is suspected of using sarin nerve gas against the population casts their current assessments into doubt and challenges Israel’s working assumption about when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad might use any chemical weapons still in his possession. Just two weeks ago, two senior intelligence sources told Al-Monitor that Assad has very limited chemical weapons capacities, mainly chlorine gas. The chief of Kurdistan Region’s ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran told Kurdpress that trade ties between the two sides have decreased from some 10 billion dollars to some 5 billion dollars. Abdullah Akrayee stated that in the past the amount of trade ties between Iran and the Kurdish region was between 8 to 10 billion dollars while the amount in the past was 4 to 5 billion dollars between the region and the south of Iraq. However, the situation has changed and the amount of ties between Iran and the region is 4 to 5 billion dollars and that of the region with the south of Iraq is 8 to 9 billion dollars.
