Hanegbi is Israel’s cabinet minister for regional cooperation and a Knesset member from the Likud Party. Rabinovich is a former Israeli ambassador to Washington and founding president of the Israel Institute. The following is a rapporteur’s summary of their remarks.

Notwithstanding the occasional serious dispute, the U.S.-Israel relationship was relatively stable for decades, regardless of which party was in power in either country. That changed with the Obama administration. Several concrete aspects of the relationship remained strong, such as intelligence sharing, military cooperation, support for Israel in international forums, and the memorandum of understanding on security assistance, which will bring Israel $38 billion over the next ten years. Nonetheless, the animosity between Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu exceeded Israeli expectations, particularly on the settlements issue and the Iran nuclear deal. Hate Speech Against Christians in Turkey on the Rise: Report

A report published this week by the Turkish Association of Protestant Churches warns that persecution and hate speech against Christians of all denominations increased significantly throughout the country in the last year, particularly in the media. The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet highlights the release of the new report, the 2016 Rights Violations Report, and notes that hate speech against Christians in public has increased and particularly reached extreme levels during the Christmas season. The report, Hurriyet relays, cites “billboard advertisements, posters, leaflets, and online” as forums for anti-Christmas and anti-New Year’s celebrations. Is Syria any closer to political solution after Astana talks?
2 Feb 2017 – AL MONITOR – International peace talks have been taking place for several years now in an effort to come to a political solution for the ongoing war in Syria. Yet the recent Astana talks, much like the previous Geneva talks, have demonstrated that they have little impact on the ground, as both the Syrian government and regional actors continue to push their own agendas.
From the get-go, the Syrian government has made it clear that its agenda is to take back “all of Syria,” and the talks in Astana — brokered by Russia, Turkey and Iran, between the Syrian government and certain Syrian opposition factions — did little to deter the Syrian government as it worked diligently on its own plan, irrespective of what was being discussed at the talks. MESOP FOCUS : Syrian opposition rejects UN envoy’s proposal to pick representatives for upcoming Geneva talks
ARA News – 2. Febr 2017 – Damascus – The Syrian opposition on Wednesday criticised the United Nations special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura for saying that he could pick representatives of the opposition’s delegation to UN-led peace talks in Geneva “if they failed to do so”.
On Tuesday, de Mistura said the Syria peace talks will take place on February 20 “to give the opposition enough time to present a united delegation.”The UN envoy warned that if the Syrian opposition had failed to pick its representatives by February 8, he would select the delegation “in order to make sure that it can be as inclusive as possible.” Syrian opposition officials rejected de Mistura’s comments, considering them “unacceptable.”
Riad Hijab, the chief of the Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee, said: “Selecting the Syrian opposition delegation is not the business of de Mistura.”Saleh al-Zein, a spokesman for the Syrian rebels, told ARA News: “It is unacceptable to have de Mistura picking representatives for the opposition. He would never issue such a statement about the regime’s participation in the Geneva talks.”The UN-led talks in Geneva are expected to bring representatives of the Syrian regime and the opposition to the table of negotiations once again, in a bid to find a ground for a political solution to the 6-year-old conflict in Syria.

Donald Trump ist ein parvenu, ein Protz, ein Decisionist, wie die gesamte Linke von Lenin bis Badiou dezionistisch handelte oder fixiert war.
