The growing friendship between Russia and Turkey in recent years was a problem for Europe. But their recent bust-up – after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet over Syria in November 2015 – is an even bigger one.
The two countries were drawn together in the last decade by growing economic ties and the rapport between their strongman leaders, threatening to create an anti-Western axis on Europe’s borders. But the downing of the jet thrust them into a confrontation that could spiral into proxy war in Syria and damage Europe’s efforts to cope with the refugee crisis, according to a new paper from the European Council on Foreign Relations. Although feeble at the moment, there have been some ongoing debates on the possible split among Kurdish politicians between more moderate, conservative and more revolutionary or leftist elements of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). As is well-known, the PKK was founded as a Marxist organization in 1978, and since it was outlawed, it immediately became affiliated and in solidarity with some legal parties in Turkey’s political arena. The Syria Democratic Forces, a U.S.-backed coalition of Kurdish and Sunni Arab groups, reportedly entered the strategic Islamic State-held city of Manbij this morning. A U.S. official said yesterday that the city had been successfully cut off from supply networks, but that military planners expected strong resistance from Islamic State militants. The presence of large numbers of Kurdish fighters in the attack on the Sunni Arab-majority city has raised tensions within the coalition of U.S.-supported groups fighting the Islamic State. Those tensions have spilled over into direct conflict in recent weeks between Kurds and the Free Syrian Army in Aleppo. At least 3,000 residents of Manbij have fled ahead of the fighting. A political partly may not come into existence without having an explicit plan, a specific goal and a clear vision for their future. Every political party around the world is born to either stand against corruption, violations of laws or mismanagement by governments, or they establish a movement to seek independence within specific boundaries; the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, is an example, whose aim is to declare independence. Every single political party or movement, on its initial steps of practicing activities, has its own aim and agenda for its country or nation; they use this agenda to serve their people; but should be well aware of not falling under the influence of other countries or foreign powers. Differently, what I see from PKK is a huge difference between what they have claimed as their “own” agenda for setting their nation free, and what is being witnessed as a fact on the ground. Um es mit einem Beispiel ganz konkret zu sagen: Das besondere deutsche Verhältnis zu Israel ergibt sich nicht aus einem „Wertekonsens”, sondern aus einer Geschichte, die nicht jedermanns Geschichte ist.
Selbst ein substantieller Wertekonsens, sosehr die Demokratie ihn braucht, ist, für sich genommen, noch kein tragfähiges Fundament für jenen zur Selbstverständlichkeit gewordenen Habitus der Akzeptanz von Mehrheitsentscheidungen und Solidaritätspflichten, der für die Demokratie essentiell ist. Juni 2016, – Michel Houellebecq ist ein Schriftsteller, der sich immer mit dem Vorwurf auseinandersetzen musste, eigentlich nicht schreiben zu können, ohne dass das jemals ein ernsthaftes Problem gewesen wäre: “Die erste – und praktisch einzige – Bedingung für einen guten Stil, liegt darin, etwas zu sagen zu haben.” Houellebecq wiederholte diesen Schopenhauer-Satz in Interviews so lange, bis ihm niemand mehr die dazugehörige Frage stellte.
