MESOP : YPG / PYD – COOPERATION NOT WITH ISIS – BUT WITH ASSAD : REDUR KHALIL
WEST KURDISTAN (SYRIA) – YPG spokesman: our cooperation with Syrian regime is logical under current conditions
August 9, 2014 – ARA News – Hasakah, Syria – Clashes renewed on Friday between militants of the Islamic State (IS) on the one hand, and Kurdish fighters of the Popular Protection Units and the Syrian regime forces on the other hand, in Geweran neighbourhood of Hasakah city. northeast Syria.
The clashes started as the YPG and pro-regime forces repeatedly tried to enter Geweran neighbourhood through Beiruti bridge but blocked by IS militants, who are in control over the neighbourhood. Redur Khalil, spokesman of the YPG (linked to the Democratic Union Party ‘PYD’), issued a statement on Thursday saying that the cooperation of their forces (YPG) with the pro-Assad military forces “is quite logical under the current conditions”.
“We will collaborate with anyone to expel extremists and expiatory groups from our areas (northeastern Syria),” Khalil said.
Khalil pointed out that Hasakah is a “red-line”. “We will defend to the end,” he said, adding that the regime’s withdrawal with its institutions from Hasakah city to deliver it to the YPG “is false”.“There was a partial withdrawal by the regime forces, but the areas where we are in power now they’ve been control after bloodshed. Thus, any claims that the Syrian regime has handed over areas to the YPG forces is untrue,” YPG’s spokesman said.
