ROJAVA 25 May 2016 –  US officials arrived in Kobani yesterday, May 24th, and met with the officials of the self-ruling administration of Kobani canton to discuss the political and security issues and achievements in the Syrian Kurdistan [Rojava], said a source from Kobani.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source told BasNews that a delegation from the US State Department, accompanied by US officials for Syria’s Affairs, arrived in Kobani and met with the head of Foreign Relations Department of Kobani and discussed the situation in the three Kurdish cantons of Kobani, Afrin and Qamishlo and the general political situation in Syria. The US delegation’s aim allegedly was to closely check the self-ruling democratic administration of the Syrian Kurdish canton. Their trip coincides with the declaration of an offensive to liberate Raqqa, the de-facto capital of the Islamic State (IS) in Syria. Previously, Joseph Votel, a top US military commander visited Syrian Kurdistan to confer with the Kurdish commanders and plot the next stage in the battle against IS in Syria.The Syrian Democratic Forces, led by the Syrian Kurds, have reportedly mobilized forces towards Raqqa to drive the IS militants out of northern areas of the city. www.mesop.de
