MESOP REPORT : Iraqi Militia Foils Terrorist Imminent Operation with Missiles on Baghdad

20 July 2016 – Hamza Mustafa – Asharq al Aawsat – Baghdad-Baghdad still did not wake from its shock following the Kurdish genocide, which led to the death of hundreds of innocent people in July.Amidst this shock, Saraya al-Salam militia announced foiling the operation that Safaa al-Tamimi, who is a commander in militias affiliated with Sadr movement, said has targeted areas in Baghdad using 14 missiles.

Al-Tamimi told Asharq Al-Awsat that the missiles were prepared to be launched with full armament in one of the villages South Baghdad, indicating that the operation was carried out with the help of intelligence information. He added that all the information they got helped them in thwarting the operation before implementing it.For its part, Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee criticized Baghdad’s Operations Command, which is directly responsible for the capital’s security.

Notably, the Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi has issued his orders to substitute Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir al-Shammari and a number of senior security and intelligence officials one day after the Minister of Interior Mohammed al-Ghabban submitted his resignation following the incidents with the Kurds, and he assigned Lt. Gen. Jabbar Jaleel. Moreover, member of the Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee Mohammed al-Karbouli expressed for Asharq Al-Awsat his surprise that Baghdad’s operation command had no role in revealing this terrorist operation, which was hindered by Saraya al-Salam. http://english.aawsat.com/2016/07/article55354815/iraqi-militia-foils-terrorist-imminent-operation-missiles-baghdad
