Kirkuk Province Ready to Hold Independence Referendum: Governor

Basnews English – 19/06/2017 – 16:00 – KIRKUK — The governor of Kirkuk province stated the province’s preparedness for hosting the referendum on Kurdistan Region independence.

During a meeting with the officials of government directorates of the province on Monday, Kirkuk Governor Najmadin Karim said that the referendum is a democratic process, his media office cited him in a statement. In the meeting, Karim has touched on the latest developments in the war against the Islamic State (IS) in southern Kikruk areas as well as the welfare of Kirkuk residents.

He has also stated that the governmental institutions in Kikruk are prepared for holding the plebiscite on Kurdistan Region independence. Kurdistan Region political leadership decided on June 7 to hold a vote on Kurdistan Region independence on September 25th of this year. The vote will also include the Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Regional Government’s administration. www.mesop.de
