SDF vows to resist Syrian government attacks near Raqqa
June 20, 2017 Syria – ARA News – The Syrian Democratic Forcess (SDF) official spokesman Talal Silo said on Monday they will respond to any Syrian government attacks in Raqqa province after the US-led coalition downed a Syrian jet attacking the SDF forces on 18 June.“After heroic resistance from our forces and allied forces against terrorism and as part of the operation launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF], the regime forces have launched since 17 June large-scale attacks using fighter jets, artillery and tanks on the areas liberated by our forces,” Silo said, with reference to the SDF-led operation against ISIS in Raqqa.“The aim of the Syrian regime’s repeated attacks against our forces is to abort the operation to liberate the city of Raqqa,” the SDF spokesperson said.
“We emphasize that the continuation of the regime attacks on our positions in the province of Raqqa will force us to reciprocate and use our legitimate right to defend our forces,” Talal Silo said.On Sunday, a spokesperson for the US-led coalition told ARA News: “The Coalition does not seek to fight Syrian regime, Russian, or pro-regime forces partnered with them, but will not hesitate to defend Coalition or partner forces from any threat.” “The Coalition presence in Syria addresses the imminent threat ISIS in Syria poses globally. The demonstrated hostile intent and actions of pro-regime forces toward Coalition and partner forces in Syria conducting legitimate counter-ISIS operations will not be tolerated.”
The Russian government has warned the US-led coalition that it will view coalition jets aircraft as targets, after the Syrian jet was shut down. www.mesop.de
