A Commander from Iran’s Quds Force Killed in Syria

Basnews English 16/12/2017 – 15:21 ERBIL — The Iranian media confirmed the death of a commander of the Quds Force, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard’s elite, and seven members of the Iranian-backed Afghan militias of al-Fatimyun and Pakistani militias of al-Zainabyun fighting in the ranks of the Iranian Guards in Syria.

According to Iran’s Defa Press, Maj. Gen. Mahdi Qarah Mohammadi, a member of the Quds Force, was killed last Wednesday during clashes with the Syrian opposition in Deir al-Zour, in eastern Syria.Along with the Iranian commander, seven militias from Iranian-affiliated groups of Fatimyun and Zainabyun were killed.

Afghan Shi’ite militia, Fatimyun, and Pakistani militia, Zainabyun, are fighting within Iran’s Quds Force in Syria in support of the Syrian regime.

Five members of Fatimyun and two members from Zainabyun were killed during the clashes on Wednesday in Deir al-Zour in Syria, the Iranian news agency reported.

Moreover, a commander from the IRGC, Hamid Ziyayi, and Kheirollah Samadi, an assistant to Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, were killed last month during clashes with Islamic State (IS) in Albu Kamal town in Syria.

Iran has lost more than 3,500 soldiers in Syria since 2012, mostly in battles against the Syrian opposition, according to sources.  www.mesop.de
