Pictures: PKK Raises Its Flag in Central Kirkuk
Basnews English – 07/05/2017 – KIRKUK — Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has hoisted the flag of the party in central Kirkuk province, refusing to abide by the instructions of the security forces of the city.According to the pictures taken by a local and sent to BasNews, PKK has raised its flag at the al-Ekhwan intersection in central Kirkuk.Head of Rahimawa district police in Kirkuk told BasNews that PKK has installed some flags of the party at the Ekhwan intersection in the city. He noted they have warned PKK against this move, but PKK is paying no heed to the demands of the security institutions, adding that the party is planning to hoist the flag in more areas in the city.
PKK-affiliated groups have also seized control of a large area of the Yezidi major town of Sinjar, refusing to withdraw from it despite the frequent calls by the district’s administration for their withdrawal. The PKK forces are seen as the major obstacle to the reconstruction of Sinjar and IDPs’ returns to the area. PKK also recruits children and teens from Sinjar in its armed groups, a practice which has deeply concerned the Yezidi community. www.mesop.de
