Mustafa Akyol, whose balanced and thoughtful columns I used to like, is taking a firm anti-Gülen line in his latest writing. He describes the Gülen movement (to which he had previously seemed sympathetic) here as a greater danger to Turkey than the PKK or ISIS. “… in none of [the previous military coups] did the nation see civilians shot dead by their own soldiers, its parliament bombed by its own fighter jets, or its president barely surviving an assassination squad.”
