“It’s so discouraging that I nearly stopped reading the newspapers,” a senior Israeli defense official said this week. He was referring to the somewhat hysterical coverage of the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear project.

The Israeli media, in its defense, isn’t solely to blame for the situation. The media here has also relied on a dramatic succession of declarations by top people. Thus the erroneous impression was created in Israel that the Vienna talks were definitely about to end with a bad result for Israel – and that Israel was almost certainly about to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities in order to terminate the project.
